If I took a date to a bar and she ordered milk, I think it would be adorable and like her more. I’m probably not enough of a pretentious douchebag to enjoy the anecdote. ---

Sure, there are cocktails that look like all kinds of things. This page has white-colored cocktails, and a number of them might look like milk, especially from a distance. [https://cocktailflow.com/collection/color-white](https://cocktailflow.com/collection/color-white) Serve milk in a martini glass and people are going to assume it’s some kind of cocktail I’m sure, Since this is ostensibly a thread about anecdotes, I have one that’s relevant. I had a bachelor party before my second (and most recent, and hopefully last) wedding, which just consisted of some of my buddies taking me to a gaming-themed tavern. (Tabletop and video gaming.) I ordered a lot of cocktails that night, and one was called (if I’m remembering correctly) a “Kirby’s Dream Land”. It came in a little rounded glass and was creamy and mottled pink, about the color of Pepto Bismol (if you mixed it with half and half). I recall it being vaguely strawberry-flavored. When my friends asked if it was any good, I said it was okay but not nearly worth the humiliation of being seen with it. I wonder how much of cultural shift there’s been in the 18 years since this thread began. I mean, I don’t really see Millennials or Zoomers caring about what other people drink. It’s just not something that would occur to them. (Hell, I’m Gen X and I don’t care - judging people by their alcoholic consumption seems like more of a Boomer thing to me). ---

Hmmm. I’ve been taking a beating for my policy of having only one beer or glass of wine at the after work “happy hour” which has resumed after three years. All of the people giving me grief over it are 23-35. Unlike them, I commute by driving about ten miles in increasingly horrendous traffic, so I don’t like to lower my alertness and judgement much, even if I’m nowhere near the legal limit for BAC. Most of the younger coworkers are walking or taking a train home. Nor do I wish to lower my inhibitions around colleagues. Of course, twenty years ago a lot of my coworkers would throw down three or four beers and then get in their cars and drive home. I took even more flak in those days as “One Beer Bob” We have had (in the past) Muslim colleagues who don’t drink, as well as recovering alcoholics. Neither of those took any fire from the drinking crowd. ---

The story itself seems bogus. Were I an attractive 35 year old male multi-millionaire, I can’t imagine hitting on a booth girl for a date. I’d be meeting beautiful, rich women at the high level events that beautiful, rich people attend. In any case, I think it is unfair to classify someone as a “simpleton” simply because the person doesn’t like to drink alcoholic beverages. If he is that controlling and judgmental, she is better off without him. ---

Semantics! In my mind, a fling lasts a bit and people who know you are going to see you. So you’d want someone attractive who won’t embarrass you. Why drinking milk would disqualify someone is a mystery. As opposed to a pickup, where you don’t care if you see them again, but probably don’t mind if you do (as long as they don’t drink milk, of course). ---

Purely anecdotally, among my Millennial-and-below peers it’s considered _extremely_ gauche to question someone’s food or drink choices. There’s been a lot of “awareness” type writing lately about the many _many_ reasons someone might choose not to imbibe and why it’s shitty to press someone about it. ---
