I say “using” because the unmasked people were wearing them, to be sure, usually on their chins. I suppose that’s so if a supervisor comes around they can pull them up. This is in New York City. NYC was the epicenter of the COVID pandemic in the US last year. It was terrifying. And this is in a hospital that a couple of weeks ago kept my father in the ER for days because they didn’t have any empty beds due to the current surge. I don’t know if this hospital requires staffers to be vaccinated. ---

Maybe I’m a “retarded shithead” myself, but it has always seemed to me that there was some daylight between ascribing “no responsibility” to someone, and it being just OK to call them slurs. ---

“Retarded” as a slur in 2021 is gross and anyone who uses it should be ashamed of themselves. @Frodo, why did you quote a different phrase than the one that was actually used? You are right, I didn’t notice that. I was wrong then, the shitheads part is ok, but “retarded” is wrong, I have to concede a point to @Jimmy_Chitwood. That said, I think he’s wrong on continuing to harp against people venting on the Pit against stupid people doing stupid things, if we can’t do that why have the forum in the first place? but we shoud refrain from using slurs. ---

Putting emotional pressure on people actually can work, but I would agree that it probably doesn’t work in isolation. I think the recent surge in vaccinations proves something I’ve said here for a while, which is that visible consequences work. Shaming by itself without any obvious consequences for not getting the vaccine probably doesn’t work but it probably works better when people hear about someone they know going to their grave. ---
