On a windy day I was trying to take a nap. From the other bedroom kept coming a “ka-pop, kapop” noise. I went to see what it was, and found that the breeze coming through an open window was moving the Japanese hanging scrolls on the wall. These scrolls are stretched between two heavy plastic rods, and when the rods bumped into the wall, they made a noise like heavy plastic billiard balls klocking together.
Problem: how to fix this without spoiling the decorative nature of the hangings? Couldn’t close the windows, it was a hot summer day and that’s the chief room through which air flows in our upstairs rooms.
I went to the drugstore and got some black elastic ponytail rings, and wrapped one around the end of each bottom plastic rod. Voila, fixed. The gleamy black fabric looked appropriate with the Japanese scrolls and it completely buffered the bumping against the wall.
