# She followed me home, I swear!

Is the shelter no-kill or will the dog be euthanized if they can’t contact the owners?

It is through the city, and she has city tags on her. They hold the dogs with ID for 10 days before releasing them for adoption, and they contact the owners through the ID. Once the dog is up for adoption they are held for another 6 days. I will be watching to see if she is moved from the impounded dogs to the adoptable dogs, because I am not sure if it is no kill or not. She really is a sweetie and just needed some real training.

One of the cats is nicknamed “Pooper”. Close enough?
(her other nickname is “Stinky”… I guess that should give you an idea of how she managed to acquire such monickers)

My nephew and his wife breed JRTs, and they screen their buyers. JRTs are very intelligent, very high energy dogs. They need a LOT of training and supervision. Otherwise, between the energy and intelligence, they’ll get into an amazing amount of trouble. They’re a lot of fun, but they do take a lot of energy and discipline.

Yea, every time I think that it might be good to adopt her (she was such a sweetie and so beautiful with one blue eye and one brown) I look up the traits of the breed and realize how easy I had it when training my dog, and I don’t think I have to chops to tackle a JRT right now. But hey, she has only been in the klink for one day and if her owners work they wouldn’t be able to pick her up right away. So I will hold onto the belief that by this time tomorrow her sad little face will be off the impounded dog list.

I once brought a stray into my house. Gave him a puppy treat, introduced him to my dog. The owners finally showed up after a couple hours. For three years after that, my house was always Seamus’s first stop when he got loose.

It’s been 5 days since she arrived at the pound and she still hasn’t been picked up. I just can’t imagine leaving my dog for that long.
Now I am starting to worry her owners won’t claim her. ☹

This shelter holds dogs with tags for 10 days before putting them up for adoption. After that, I am not sure how long they are held, but there is one dog on the website that has been there since March 2.
