We get it with Shaw in Edmonton/Sherwood Park. I dunno. It’s just all there as part of the package I guess.

Nitpicky…but they have these weirdly violent shots in some of the fight scenes. Like initially with The Wrecking Crew. She smacked two guys heads together and threw a guy up like 20 feet who landed on his head. I couldnt help but think, “Damn, she just killed those guys!”

And at the wedding they made a point of showing Titania bustle into a waiter, and again “Damn! That guy has seven broken ribs!” I thought for sure the point of that specific shot was to have Jen go “Oh this is serious we cant fight here”…but nope.

I definitely didn’t find it as funny as the ones on his main channel about how things are named. This got too bogged down.

Here’s one on the names of fruit that I found funnier:

Did you ever watch the Netflix Daredevil series? He would agonize about how he could never, ever take a human life. And then in the next scene he would throw a guy down a metal staircase head-first.

Some of the “First Guy” videos are pretty good too. I like this one on the first guy to make a commercial:

The only way the MCU works is that in their universe humans are just naturally more durable. We’ve regularly seen non-super powered folks get thrown around without taking much damage. Black Widow gets kicked like 20 feet into an steel wall and is up and running 5 minutes later.

And, I think that’s just generally true in most superhero comics. Generally, the only time someone is depicted as actually dying (be it a random bystander, a hero or villain, or one of their loved ones) is if it specifically serves the story at hand.

Really, most action movies in general. You can’t get shot in the shoulder and shrug it off as a “flesh wound,” or get hit in the head hard enough to be knocked out and just pop up ten minutes later like nothing happened, or get punched in the face five or six times and still be movie star pretty in the next scene.

John McClane is as much of a superhuman as Wolverine, he’s just not as flashy about it.

Die Hard 1 McClane seemed pretty human to me – I thought that was a big part of the charm of the movie. He was really beat to hell at the end. Latter-movie McClane became superhuman (and the movies got much, much worse).

In the first movie, he walks barefoot through broken glass and isn’t crippled for the rest of his life. Hell, he’s not even slowed down for the rest of the movie.

That’s a fuckin’ super power right there.

I dunno… adrenaline is a hell of a drug. If military award jackets can be trusted, I’ve read of similar feats of physical toughness and heroism from some of our finest. Some people are physically capable of extraordinary things in occasional extraordinary circumstances.

IMO McClane is up in that “top 1% toughest but still human people”. YMMV.

I don’t think adrenaline can do that much to help with a severed tendon.

[Here’s a fun article about how fucked up John McClane would have been in real life.](https://theweek.com/articles/441502/diagnosing-die-hards-craziest-injuries-professional-weighs) It also points out that he’d have broken his spine doing that stunt with the fire hose.

> [@](#):
>
> **The doctor’s conclusion:** Based on the injuries McClane would likely receive during the events of _Die Hard_ , I feel it is doubtful that he would wave away the ambulance, hop in a limousine with Holly, and ride home in the film’s final scene. Months of intensive hospital recovery are more likely. By the time McClane meets the Dulles International Airport terrorists in _Die Hard_ _2_ , he would likely be dependent on a motorized wheelchair and home nursing care, with limited (at best) use of his arms. I would watch that movie.

Diegetically, I don’t think that’s true. He’s not an ex-SEAL, or a government trained assassin, he’s just a New York cop with relationship problems. They cast Bruce Willis - who at that point in his career was known for light comedy - specifically because it was against type for an action hero. He’s meant to be an average guy, caught up in events, who survives by his wits instead of overpowering martial strength.

Widow at _least_ is an elite assassin with, I assume, SOME kind of lite armor or padding in her outfit.

Jens head should have been pulped if she were punched with enough force to fly back fifteen feet. Imagine dropping out of a plane without a parachute and hitting your head on a pole. That’s what Titania should have left outside the wedding venue.

I think the tropes are more pronounced cause its one thing for Daredevil to crack some thugs head in a dark hallway with a billyclub, and its another for a Hulk to smash a guys head against a brick wall.

And its one thing to see Widow get backhanded by Hulk and another to see a civvie like Jen get clocked.

Of course, it is a comedy.

Maybe you’re right. Though I meant “toughest” as describing mental toughness and the ability to fight through pain, not physical strength.

Well, I hated this. I didn’t watch past episode 4. I truly wanted to love it. The pilot was good. She-Hulk is my favorite super hero. I find a lot of these Disney Marvel shows are incredibly well cast and this is no exception.

But the writing… Ugh. It’s not an action show. It’s not a legal procedural. If it’s about Jennifer’s life, it doesn’t really define and work on a specific character arc. It’s just a big blob of pointless, meandering mush. The stakes couldn’t be lower. Too many of the jokes fall flat.

Between this and the failed writing in Ms. Marvel, Marvel is using up the last of my goodwill.
