I thought one of my favorite film quotes was in that film, but no:ABC Movie of the week film: The Over The Hill Gang.

Chill Wills is in a poker game (and dealing the crooks extra aces) and when everyone shows their hand, he says, _“I ain’t one to quibble over the rules, but seven aces in one deck… shoowee…that’s a LOT of aces.”_

All this talk of William Shatner and all his TV work and nobody mentions [his crowning achievement](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1612578/).

A mistake only in hindsight. And Chabert didn’t leave for movie roles. She left to concentrate on college. And at the time Chabert left Family Guy (the middle of the second season), the show was struggling in the ratings and was only barely renewed and eventually was canceled a year later.

I never had either the inclination or desire to watch an episode of this series (not even with Mr Shatner as the lead), and after reading its synopsis I can see I was absolutely right in not doing so!

(The only two US sitcoms I _did_ start watching after _ **Cheers!** _ ended were _ **Frasier** _ and _ **Big Bang Theory** _. All of the others I sampled were lame or just plain **not funny at all** , IMHO. )

I liked it. I was sad when it was canceled. Will Sasso and Nicole Sullivan were also in it and are two very funny people and played two quite sympathetic characters as his son and daughter-in-law. One of my favorite scenes was when Shatner was in a karaoke bar and was asked if he wanted to sing. When it was suggested he sing “Rocket Man,” he quickly said, “Oh, no. Not tonight.”

One thing funny about Clooney - he was also in a different show called E/R that only lasted 1 year.

I gotta agree. As much as I enjoy _Mr. Limpet_, I have to say _The Ghost and Mr Chicken_ is pretty much the height of Don Knott’s film career. It’s as close to a perfect vehicle for a comedian as I’ve seen.
And that whole thing about 5 Emmys for the same role? The only other performer I know of who won 5 Emmys for the same role is Candace Bergen for _Murphy Brown_.

And, despite several funny movie performances, Candace Bergen has been far more successful on TV than in films!🙂

His dream was to become as fine an actor as Laurence Olivier and do high drama.\* It was more for financial reasons that he started doing TV, and _ **Star Trek** _ in particular (just prior to _ **Trek** _, he had done a laughably bad pilot called _ **Alexander the Great** _, produced by the same people who did _ **Combat!** _). Alas, his hopes went largely unfulfilled after _ **TOS** _ ran its course, and he’s now Captain Kirk, more or less, for life.

TJ Hooker was a popular series as was The Practice and he won two emmy’s for that role. (aw well as a Golden Globe)
It’s not hubris to try new things.

Yet another voice in the Great Shatner Debate. Awesome! 🆒

It should also be mentioned that he was also clashing big time with the production company that was putting his (and the three others in the rotation) out. He always claimed that he had been promised well written scripts and location shoots in Europe and the Middle East, but instead he ended up on the back lot doing pot boilers.

Only a true Shanter fan could appreciate the awesomeness of [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&v=cKo4FMzt_hM).

William Fucking Shatner sings “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Since this has turned into the Bill Shatner thread. I thought it was interesting to see him playing Shirley Jones son on _Hot in Cleveland_. Shatner is 83 and Jones is 80.

Hey, I’ve laughed at Shatner jokes\* many times, but really, what does he have to be embarrassed about?

He MAY be a jerk (many sources say so), he IS a ham. But the man has had a very long, very successful career, he’s been a huge star, and he’s made a ton of money. So, what does HE care if we laugh at his inflections or his over-emoting?

My favorite Shatner joke came in an old variety show sketch from decades ago. The sketch involved “Celebrity Math.” A few equations they taught:

Marie Osmond plus Crocodile Dundee = Olivia Newton-John

Laurence Olivier minus Laurence Olivier = William Shatner

13 episodes! Five fewer than **S#!t My Dad Says**

And it co-starred Richard Kiel!
