(If so, do you suppose this irregularity is because “Kraut” is manifestly foreign in origin, and thus insulated from your regular English phonological processes? Sorry. 🙂 When I got home, I’ll make a little recording so you can hear how I sound when pronouncing those words. **Spoons** or **Kythereia** would be better people to ask this question of, because thay a) know more about linguistics than me, and b) have met me and know what I sound like. ---
