I always thought he was just publicly and loudly announcing that he is the sort of person who repeats a lame joke over and over in an attempt to make it funnier, when in reality nobody found it funny in the first place and just thinks less of him with each repetition. I do like your take on it, though, as even though it lacks the pathetic desperation of mine, it ramps up the ignorance to profundity. A fair trade I suppose. ---
