well if the UK joins the Euro-zone you won’t have to worry about Pounds Shillings and Pence at all!
What IS a “euro”? I’ve heard about them but I don’t know what they are…
The Euro is the new European currency, available in real currency as of 1 January 2002. It has been adopted by twelve countries of the European Union. Up to now, Britain has declined to adopt it. (Bloody British. When I was in London a few weeks ago I had to keep recalculating all prices, first to Euro, than to Guilders since that is what I’m still the most familiar with…) Its value has been roughly equal to the dollar, but lately it is markedly above (1 Euro = 1.16 USD, I believe).
Correct Tusculan! oh you’re from the Netherlands, i thought you were a very “finger on the pulse” American … and I agree that the Brits not using the Euro is a pain, the Euro equivalent of Sterling prices is frightening … [€6 for a magzine that costs £2.90 in the UK for example]
As has been stated right at the start of this post we have not used shillings in the UK since 1971 – only pounds and pence.
Its still really bloody complicated… why can’t we all just have ONE currency? make it easier for everyone.
