OK, see y’all tonight; 6:15, by the left-hand lion!
Very enjoyable talk–Ed. O’Donnell is indeed as cute as his author’s photo, and a very good speaker. Oxymoron was there, and Mehitabel–and Oxy, who was that delightful codger you came with? Didn’t catch his name.
I’m back home in the Northern reaches of the city. NY geography is so funny that it’s faster for Eve to get home across state lines than for me to get back home in the same city!
Oh well. Interesting, informative lecture. O’Donnell was adorable and you could see him warming to his topic as the night went on. Oxymoron and his friend were very amiable and we had an animated discussion for a little while afterwards. My first meeting with Dopers IRL!
Off to his site, www.general-slocum.com. The 99th anniversary of the disaster is this Sunday, so please spare a thought or prayer for the 1,021 people who met horrible deaths that day.
Jesus, eve & Mehitabel, it was me not Oxy.
God, I know I’m “Mr. Cellophane” on the board, but now invisible in real life too?!?! Sheesh!
Jesus, what the hell was I thinking? I know Oxy and I know you, and you don’t even look alike! I can only blame it on a bone from my broken toe reaching my brain and lodging there.
Next time I call you Oxy, please feel free to call me moron . . .
—Eve (still kicking herself, which is not as easy as it sounds)
Drattit, why do I lose these threads until it’s too late? Eve, darlin’, any time you want to credit my attendance at something, feel free - anything you want to see I probably will, too, and I’ll be kicking myself for forgetting.
But apologies to Stuy!
Hey, I was following Eve, which seems a very sensible thing to do!
Whoever I met, it was a treat. Woodlawn Cemetery once Eve’s porr toe heals, folks.
Which will be quite some time, as I am still kicking myself at my unintentional insult to Stuyguy.
Ummm, not that being called Oxymoron is an insult . . . Oh, I’m just digging myself deeper . . .
