I need to ship a lithium-ion battery for an electric bike within the US. I’m a person shipping it to another person (not a corporation with a shipping department). The battery is Phylion XH370-10J. It’s not charged, I haven’t used it in 2 years. How difficult is it going to be to ship this? What is the easiest way? It looks like USPS won’t take a battery that contains more than 2 gm of lithium and this battery weighs almost 10 lbs. I looked on the web sites for USPS, UPS, and FedEx to find out what the restrictions are. So my question is… Is it easy to ship such a battery, and what’s the easiest method?

You can probably ship it via FedEx ground (Home, I think they call it now) with stiff hazmat fee. ($35 + shipping charges, IIRC) I think that is how my Lithium batteries have all arrived, including for an E-bike…but it has been several years. Also I think hazmat always requires a receiving signature, which can be a pain in the butt for working folks.

Go to eBay and search for comparable items:

> **[ebike battery for sale | eBay](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=ebike%2Bbattery&_sop=12)**
>
> Get the best deals for ebike battery at eBay.com. We have a great online selection at the lowest prices with Fast & Free shipping on many items!

Click on the Shipping and Payments heading (right of the description) to see what they are using. Looking at a few entries my impression is that they are simply using standard ground shipping–not haz-mat service.

I brought it to our local UPS Store to ship by ground, and told them what it was. They said they could not ship it. They said that _maybe_ the main UPS depot could take it, but I’d need to provide documentation about watt-hours, etc. (which I do not have). So I took it to the Fedex store to ship by ground, and said it was bike parts, and had no problem. I debated telling them what it was just to find out if they’d take it, but I chickened out because I didn’t want to have to go to yet a third place.
