# Shipwreck uncovered in Coos Bay

[An old shipwreck has been uncovered in Coos Bay](http://www.theworldlink.com/articles/2008/02/10/news/doc47ad50377f366233223309.txt).

Winter storms have shifted the dunes in Coos Bay, OR and have uncovered an old shipwreck. It hasn’t been identified, but a resident of North Bend, 86-year-old Jack Long says he remembers a name plaque on it when he saw it in the '50s.

Fascinating! I was editor of The World for about six months back in 1997. Loved Coos Bay. As a country boy from the Colorado sandhills, I found the whole coastal experience exotic and a little bizarre.

I’ve only been there once, last August. The weather was wonderful. Very pretty area. We went for a drive and a little hike, and I saw whales swimming just offshore. We went to an old lighthouse, and walked out on the jetty that apparently is made from part of a ship.
