Your drive-by attempt at lame humor here was a total disaster. If **Tripler** ’s response didn’t make you realize how crappy your attempt was (and I’m assuming it didn’t because you haven’t responded any more in that thread), maybe this Pit thread will do it. Yeah, this is a pitting for something that happened five days ago. Maybe I don’t read and post as often as I could, but I felt I just had to say this. ---

Yeah…so? **Shirley** doesn’t need me to defend her, but I say this must be the lamest pitting this afternoon. **Shirley** often uses humor to lighten up heavy topics, quite often to very good effect. It is what she does best, and I like it. If she went overboard here, it is only up to **Tripler** to remark on it, and he did, and that is the end to it. ---

Normally her drive by lameness is merely annoying, unfunny and a waste of pixels. This one was also in bad taste and the thought that the usual lameness would be appropriate there is stupid beyond belief. ---

Why does Shirley need to cope with Tripler’s tragedy? She had no reason to put that joke in there, and while I usually am on the side of gallows humor, this was unnecessary. ---

About gallows humor, it doesn’t really work if it comes from someone not facing the gallows. I mean sure soldiers joke but god help the outsider who steps in to make light of someone elses loss. ---

How could this possibly “lighten the mood”? It was so painfully disrespectful it made me cringe. You don’t see someone who’s just suffered a loss like that and crack a joke. Especially not such a completely fucking stupid one. I mean, did she get that off a piece of Laffy Taffy? I’m probably taking what she did a little too seriously, but fuck - it was so grossly disrespectful and tasteless. I can’t imagine what would possess her to do that. And why did she apologize by saying - if I read her overuse of smilies correctly - “I’m such a happy Orthodox Jewish man?” Seriously, WTF? ---

It was in very bad taste. Who knows the reason for it. I’m pretty confused about the choice of smiley as well. I don’t know, something about it is just…off. I mean, she doesn’t usually go around making comments like that (from what I’ve seen). It’s out of character. Maybe she didn’t really understand the seriousness of the situation, or someone hijacked the computer while she was logged in, or it could just be a very bad attempt at lightening the mood. In any case, I don’t think she seriously meant to hurt **Tripler** or be a jerk. There’s got to be more than meets the eye here. ---

Thunder, I think one admonishment in the original thread would have been sufficient punishment for the alleged transgression. In the grand scheme of things, it was a minor infraction. Had she seen Tripler’s face, she would have been able to better gauge whether her brand of humor would have been welcomed. That is one of the downsides to meeting in cyberspace. \*\* My friend recently lost her cousin. J was in bull riding school (I kid you not) and got thrown from a bull. And the pain the family felt, and continues to feel, is acute and real. The accident was indisputably tragic. But the fact remains: He was killed at _bull riding school_. If that doesn’t give you a fit of giggles, then you need to lighten up. 😃 By the way, if someday I should be run over by a herd of bison, I give you all permission to make jokes, er, til the cows come home (sorry). Just try not to make them to Mr. Pundit. On the day of the funeral anyway. That would be a tad insensitive. So, Shirley, I give you a thwack on the head with a thawed halibut for being insensitive. And I’ll give Thunder two for one of the lamest pittings in Pit history. ---

My friend died of cancer today. “Doesn’t that just eat you up when that happens??” 😃 My friend died of a heart attack today. “Man, I had a coronary when I read that!” 😃 My friend died of Alzheimer’s today. “I haven’t laughed so hard since…what were we talking about?” 😃 Really, Shirley was just trying to throw in some Bush-bashing. After all, if you are serving in the military, you _must_ be fighting a war on terrorists. So if you were killed in the military, you were killed by terrorists. Since the guy was killed by a cow, the cow was a terrorist. Hardy fucking har har. So you don’t like the war, that’s fine. Go protest it and stop dissing the guy with your cow terrorist shit.
