Shooting at a Maryland Newspaper

Pot, meet kettle.

I think the primary intent of the words was to advertise a show, I really do. I don’t dispute that there might have been a secondary “chilling effect”, but I don’t believe it was her intent.

I’m glad we found some agreement at least on this point.

No, I disagree. I do not dispute that it has upset some people, but I don’t believe that was “the reason for this”. The reason was to attract viewers for a show.

I believe this is the comment you’re referring to (from November 2016). It too was not a call for “the action their members should take”, but I certainly don’t dispute that the imagery is violent, and I wished she hadn’t used that particular phrase. Bad Dana. I have a hard time getting too worked up about it because this statement sat out there for 20 months without, AFAICT, anyone really caring until last week, but I would not, actually "like to defend her “curb stomping comments”.

Certainly, the world would be a better place if we were all a bit more civil to each other, and avoided unnecessarily-inflammatory language and ridiculous hyperbole. I assume we agree on this point too?

And the Kathy Griffith shenanigans were intended to be funny, not any sort of actual threat. Yet, not only did the right not find it funny and contemned, but so did the left. Which one still has their job?

Yes, and so is “Nice shop you have here, sure would be terrible if something happened to it.”

That someone carefully tailors words to not cross the legal threshold of threats doesn’t mean that there is no threat behind the words.

I mean, I guess, yeah. The reason for it was to attract viewers. Viewers who like language and imagery like curb stomping reporters. That really doesn’t make it better in my opinion.

There was a furor of commentary at the time, but the same things were said then. “It’s not really a threat”. There were also quite a number of other things going on at the time with the trump election, so it was, while rather vile, something that got swept up in the daily chaos.

I’ll agree with that.

Reported.

Well, since in got (possibly in error), might as well update:

He’s pleaded insanity (this time apparently listening to a lawyer)

Well, the boy is off his nut, but no more crazy than many, many other people. He certainly needs treatment. I would not want to say if he is too nuts to be punished.
