And it seems that various networks have varying numbers of casualties and injuries, but we should hear more at the news conference from proper authorities in a few minutes. ---

And just after the shooting here in Portland. Makes you wonder if there was any connection. This is definitely going to bring back up some serious gun regulation discussion. But, since it’s America, I’m not holding my breath that anything significant will be accomplished. Ugh just…what kind of sick bastard shoots up an elementary school? ---

This is in the next town over from my sister and my two nieces. My older niece’s school is on lockdown as a precaution. My sister is not looking forward to explaining this to my nieces at all. Scary. ---

I found out just yesterday that my son’s school does drills to deal with situations like this. I remember thinking that was a little bit ridiculous if only it freaks out the kids. I’m not thinking that now though. How very sad. ☹ ---

I keep resolving not to think about this, then I have to look again. I always come back to “Why?” It makes me sick when I think of my little girl at her elementary school right this moment. It makes me want to rush to protect her from this kind of thing, but what can I do? It makes you feel so helpless. (FTR, I’m all for gun control. Would like to be able to DO something more concrete as well.) And yeah, my daughter’s school has drills where they lock the classroom doors and block all the windows. It’s scary, but I would rather they have some coordinated response, and the only way is to practice. ---
