Short rant about those little cards available to family members of police officers

Funny it was exactly this reason that my buddy Marvin, a sheriff’s deputy, gave me a sticker. I was once pulled over three times in the same week after taking my current position. (well it could have been "Driving Expensive Car while Black, but still…) Results, I haven’t gotten a ticket since. YMMV

I’ve definitely got a problem with this.

Here in New South Wales, some people have bumper stickers that say, “COPS ARE TOPS”. I don’t even know where they got them, but it’s apparent to me that it’s not on their car because they necessarily agree with the sentiment, but rather it’s there as a hopeful piece of insurance against getting a fine. If I were a traffic cop, I’d be less likely to be lenient if I saw one of those.

Similarly, I heard of a friend of a friend in The Philippines who carries a card in his wallet saying " ‘X’ is a good friend of the Mayor". So what? If I were a cop, I’d be saying, “And I’m a good friend of the local greengrocer. And, for that matter, of the guy who fixes bicycles. You broke the law, here’s your ticket. Enjoy.”

My wife actually got one of these cards for having done good deeds as a doctor to the local PD. She’s not in a position to do this anymore, so no more card. Kind of ironic, since I’ve had the experience of being pulled over for driving while dark & unshaved & in an old car.
So these days the card I carry in my wallet is from the ACLU, with tips on how to keep that cop from pummelling you into the ground when you inevitably get pulled over for driving while…

Anth,
If it makes you feel any better, I’m cuter then all get out, and I still get tickets. YMMV.

My sister worked for the parole department in our county jail system and had a badge that she needed to get in and out of different places. She got pulled over for speeding and as soon as the cop saw the badge she was outta there, no ticket, no nothing. Interesting…

Just to up the ante…
I saw a PBA license plate the other day.
I imagine that car has some sort of invisible shield around it that allows it to park wherever it wants, and drive as fast as it wants. If the driver happens to be drunk, all cops within 20 feet of it magically transform into taxi drivers and take him home.
That plate really pissed me off. The cards are a private organization thing, and I don’t see how you could stop them. That license plate though…

That’s ridiculous.
