My fiancé did a short sell with the help of a lawyer. The lawyer specialized in things like short sells and handled all of the paper work and all of the communications between the bank and the lending company for a flat fee. She could have probably saved some money doing along, but there are professionals who handle such things.
I agree. A lawyer, even an accountant may be able in this process. But I think the warning should be about people who are selling help services that don’t guarantee any results for the cost. Paying someone to perform a specific necessary task isn’t going to be a problem though.
There are a bunch of crooks who claim to help people get a “government refi.” They want thousands in cash, up front, and they they are GONE.
There are community services that help people with the refi paperwork. And they don’t ask for any money.
