I too am of that era and happily wore those shorts throughout high school and college. Apparently men’s shorts have sort of bottomed out now and the latest styles are now inching (heh!) gingerly upwards into shorter hem lengths. It remains to be seen if this trend has legs. Here’s a thread from last summer that goes into more detail and more people’s reactions to shorter shorts.
