Psych! I always wanted to open a thread with that title… If you were hoping for some gossip, sorry. The contents of this thread have nothing to do with the title. ::bending over for spankings:: When we were kids, my brother was diagnosed as hyperactive and back in those days (1970s), sugar was fingered as the cause of the disorder. Mom went nuts. No sugar for us, ever again. Granola, yes. Yogurt-covered raisins, yes. Carob-covered cashews, yes. Sugarless Kool-Aid, yes. Coca-Cola, no. Chocolate chip cookie batter, no. Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (AKA Food de los Dioses), an ear-shattering NO! This forced sugar starvation as a child led me to 1) become obsessed with sugar **ful** items as an adolescent/young adult and 2) hate carob, in all its forms. Maybe that’s because carob seemed only to cover items I detested: raisins and cashews. But now, I looooove carob. I can understand a kid not liking rasins. I never developed a taste for them as an adult (though I still prefer chocolate chips in mom’s oeatmeal cookied) but how can you not like cashews? You raise the bar for picky eaters. ---

I have a very unhealthy relationship with carob. Some years ago, I was eating at The Good Earth in the Galleria near Southdale with some friends. Their dessert menu advertised a chocolate chip cookie that in some fashion supported the rainforest. I shrugged, and when the waitress came to clear our plates and ask for dessert, I asked for the chocolate chip cookie, thinking I was doing my little part to save the world. Think globally, act locally, you know the drill. She looked down her nose at me and in a haughty tone informed me that they serve _carob_ and most emphatically **not** chocolate. I pointed at the chocolate chip cookie on the dessert menu and asked for the carob chip cookie that was advertised as a chocolate chip cookie. I don’t think she liked me. ---

My husband calls [Luna bars](http://www.clorders.com/lunatoastedpopup.htm) “Ass Bars” because, as he so boldly and wrongly states, “They taste like ass.” I think it’s kinda funny. Luna=Moon=Ass Heh. I love Luna bars. ---

Tee hee hee! I love cashews. You won’t hate me, will you? I remember carob from my youth. Never really was traumatized by it, but I always felt somehow…disappointed…because it wasn’t the yummy goodness that chocolate was. Thank God we’re in the years of the Internet. Way out west we can’t get those nummy cookies in stores. Ah, but to my delight I can order online. So I may, someday, taste the wonder of these cookies. I will never look at my Luna bars in the same way ever again. In fact, I may never be able to buy the Nutz over Chocolate flavor (or whatever it’s called) again. Nuts, butts, what’s going on over there? ---

How can one not like cashews? Easily. I don’t like them either; they’re gross. I don’t see how that makes me a picky eater. I like lotsa stuff. But not cashews. **Gazelle** , we must band together! Cashew haters of the world, **UNITE!!!** [sub]we’re people too[/sub] ---

Carob only resembles chocolate in that it is brown, but then, so is dirt and I wouldn’t want to eat that either. 😉 ---

When I was a little **hyperjes** , I was allergic to nearly every food known to man. Seriously, you name it. (corn, wheat, chocolate, mushrooms, milk, egg whites, seafood, red dye…) There was not much left for me to eat besides puffed rice and carob. I hate them both now. (The only allergies that stayed are the mushroom/fungus ones. Thank Og!)
