My mother and father met in December of '71 and got married in August of '72. Less than a week after they were introduced by a common friend, my father called my mother and asked her out on a date. At the end of the evening on their first date my father proposed. They originally intended to get married on St. Patrick’s Day '72, the only reason they pushed the date back to August was because my father’s brother had already gotten engaged and set a date for a June wedding. Since his brother got engaged first, my father and my mother agreed that it wouldn’t be fair to sneak ahead. So, there’s my parents: Eight months from meeting to marriage. The marriage did, in fact, last until death did they part (well, he parted- she’s still around). I’ve long had the premonition that, when I finally meet the woman who I will marry (haven’t met her yet), we would marry less than a year after meeting. I realize that this is less an less conventional these days. So, chime in. Who among you got married the quickest? Any of you just think this is totally wack? ---

My parents met in Sept '65, had their first date in Oct '65, got engaged in Dec '65 and married in June '66. Almost 40 years later, they are still together. \*\*Jeevmon \*\* and I were a bit slower: met July 4, 2002; first date July 27, 2002; engaged March 2003; married Oct 4, 2004. So we were 14 months to the day. ---

The parents of a friend of mine met at a dance. They were married a month later (and still are, the last time I checked). ---

My husband and I met January '99, first date was St. Patrick’s day '99, got engaged March 10th of 2000 and we married in August 2000. And we had our kid 2 weeks before our second anniversary. So, 18 months from first date to marriage. Not very speedy compared to some, but far far faster than most of my girlfriends who insist they’d have to date someone for at least 18 months before getting _engaged_. Which probably explains why none of them are married yet. 😃 ---

My paternal grandparents were married within 24 hours of meeting each other. That must be some kind of record. They were married long enough to have three children (one of them my father, obviously), but my grandfather died unexpectedly after (if I remember right) 13 or 14 years of marriage, so I don’t know if they would have stayed married forever. But I’ve never heard anyone in the family indicate that there were any difficulties in the marriage. ---

My step-father’s parents met and fell instantly in love. They realized that day that their parents would never approve. She was a Methodist and he was a Presbyterian! The eloped two weeks later and were married for over 60 years. Haj ---

My sister was in the army stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington. She got engaged three days after meeting her husband (also a soldier). They were married three weeks later. That was 24 years ago and they’re still happily married, through 4 living children, two who died at birth and 2 miscarriages, through dying parents and lost jobs, through illness and child rearing. This is mindboggling! As someone who needs months to get to know someone, I can’t imagine connecting so quickly. But then I can’t really imagine falling in love either, so I may simply be romance-impaired. ---

Compared to some here my wife and I drug our engagement out. We met in July, got engaged on Thanksgiving day and were married on Feb. 1. That was 41 years ago this past February. We’re still trying to decide if we can make it last. 😉 ---

My parents met on a blind date on the third of the month. On my dad’s birthday, the 18th, he aked my mother to marry him. She said yes, and they were married on the 27th of the same month. 24 days. ---

Met goddess early March, '93. Proposed to goddess somewhere in November, '93. Married goddess on Valentine’s Day, '94. Woulda moved quicker, but I didn’t wanna get married on Christmas, and the next holiday that I knew would keep me from ever forgetting my anniversary wasn’t until February… 😃 ---

First time=Young and Foolish: Married her five months after first meeting her. Second time=Older and Wiser, so it only took four months between meeting and marrying. Second time=much better.
