Should Everclear be banned?

Are you willing to ban anything that has ever harmed a child. Think about your answer.

Careful, boys… you’re about to be snared in his rhetorical trap. It’s a bit hard to see, right next to the giant neon billboard reading “GUN CONTROL GOTCHA” with a flashing arrow.

It’s funny that people think they’re arguing with **Kable **about alcohol.

Let me make his point for him, since he enjoys the coyness:

“STOP SAYING BAD THINGS ABOUT GUNS BECAUSE PEOPLE DIE IN OTHER WAYS TOO!”

There, can we double-tap this zombie-thread now?

Oh, I’m not familiar with him.

There’s a pretty fucking giant hole in the comparison though. Well, several.

Several? Let’s hear them.

It is funny. Now I’m going to load some ammo, shoot a bit, then I’m going to enjoy a stout myself.

It has uses other than drinking though. It’s illegal in my home state, but I can drive 10 miles and pick up a bit (no more than 2 litres at a time  ) for use in cleaning aquarium parts. There are very few things one can safely use for this job, but everclear works a treat, rinses clean or evaporates quickly, and if you miss any it won’t kill the fishies.

It frankly annoys the crap out of me that I can’t just go get a gallon of it at the hardware store when I need some. That de-natured stuff is not fish-friendly. They should require an ID and an age limit (18 IMHO) for any dangerous chemical, but it’s amazing the crap you can buy without it. Pure Acetone? Are you tall enough to see over the counter? Well, OK then. . . .

Complete idiocy.

Yes, it’s pretty transparent where the argument was going. I thought it was more fun to dance around it and play stupid.

Not even Queen?

Stop being on my side of any argument, please. Your rhetoric is bad and you should feel bad.

You’re a bad, bad person and apparently so am I.

Kable, your last post is borderline trolling and there are already plenty of threads about gun control and you could start another if you felt it necessary. This one is about Everclear. If that topic doesn’t interest you, don’t post in this thread.

It brightens my day to see so many people agreeing that banning things for the stupidity of the user is a pointless wasted gesture.

Depends on the child.

Nice.

There was a debate about Everclear? Looked like everyone was in agreement to me.

How would you argue your our points?

Sherwood Anderson would likely agree.

They pretty much were, yes. That doesn’t mean you can hijack the thread. You - and any other posters - need to take the gun discussion to another thread.

Hi, I’m an alcoholic. I’ve not drunk for 14 months now, despite living somewhere where alcohol consumption is much more socially tolerated than much of the US.

No, it shouldn’t be banned. I drank, always, because I chose to. It’s not your business, or anyone else’s, to tell me what I can choose to do, unless it may harm other people. You can, and indeed should, tax things that may harm myself as I’ll be expecting to have that harm fixed.

To make it clear, if I choose to drink myself to death, I have every right to. I chose not to, and the legality and availability of alcohol had no bearing on that choice.
