This statement is way too broad a generalization. It might be true of Suburbans and Expeditions, (or it might not), but I am pretty sure it is a false claim for SUVs the size of Blazers and Grand Cherokees. So, before we agree to your unsupported assertion, just what sort of SUV was it?

In addition, my reading about the events, so far, seem to indicate that traffic was fairly light. (I am open to correction–with evidence–on that point.) Given a stable vehicle and light traffic, 91 m.p.h. is certainly not a guarantee of a problem.

It is the poor center of gravity in SUVs. and poor design.

The statement is still too broad. A Subaru Outback is an SUV. A Honda CR-V is an SUV. A Chevy Blazer is an SUV. Do **each** of those vehicles have rollover rates four times higher than the Taurus, Corolla, and Malibu? How about comparing the Caravan, Quest, and Odyssey to the Taurus, Corolla, and Malibu and to some variety of SUVs. I am sure that I could get an Expedition to roll over a lot easier than a Corvette. However, in the face of claims that “_They aren’t even safe at 55 MPH-they are prone to rollovers and are top heavy, poorly handling vehicles under the best of circumstances_.” with no indication of what “they” are or which model the Governor used, the statement is, as I said, too broad. If the Governor was sitting loosely inside an Expedition or Explorer, I will accept that 91 was probably not a wise choice of speed (although on a lightly travelled, limited access, multiple-lane divided highway graded to accept tall, heavy semi-trailers, I suspect that it is not as utterly foolish as portrayed). If the vehicle was a smaller, lower, better handling one on such a road, the statement is mostly hyperbole.

Update: Corzine paid the $46 standard fine for not wearing his seatbelt. The ticket was issued at Corzine’s request. He also apologized for “setting a bad example” by not wearing his seatbelt.
What’s up with state troopers chauffeuring the governor around, anyway? Was the trooper on duty at the time? Is this common in other states?
Absolutely.

In most states either members of the State Police, State Patrol, or State Capitol Police Department bodyguard and chauffeur the Gov..
