I’m not really sure… I was having some fun, and AFAIK I wasn’t violating any rules, but TubaDiva told me to knock it off. I was experimenting with changing my Custom User Title. I wanted to make it “BANNED” but that is apparently a reserved word and the system wouldn’t accept it. In [this other ATMB thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=15506836#post15506836), Siam Sam suggested “BANNNED”, and no one would notice the extra N. Which I thought was a great idea and it worked. But within a few minutes I was told to stop. And particularly galling, that it’s “not funny.” It WAS funny, dammit. It [even](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=15506703&postcount=10) [worked](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=15506764&postcount=26), for the few minutes it existed! Anyway, this is not a deal breaker between me and the SDMB, and I can bow and scrape like a pro, but can’t a guy have some fun? ---

Should you be complaining about this? Yes. I can only assume TubaDiva sleeps on a pile of absorbotron. Will complaining about it change anything? No. ---

Yes. It was hilarious. Also we are all too stupid and would be confused. We would see you posting and then see the banned and be all like, “but, but wah?..huh?.. I uh?..-:head explodes:-” and then there’d be no one to post here anymore and then the world would end. ---

I am shocked – _shocked_, I say – that anyone would fool around with their user title. This is the first I’ve heard about it. If I had known, I would have strongly advised against it. ---

We like jokes as much as the next person – I own a rubber chicken my ownself and am not afraid to use it. We just don’t see the humor after something like this happens and then we have to go behind you and explain that no, you’re not really banned and no, you weren’t suspended and no, you weren’t even Warned … you were just being funny. Other people in this community take that kind of thing very seriously and so we have to as well. ---

Can you imagine the hubbub? There’d be a 37 page thread “WHY DID BOY JIM GET BANNED HE WASN’T EVEN DOING ANYTHING WRONG THE MODS ARE CAPRICIOUS AND WILLFUL” ugh. Tuba you smack him with that rubber chicken. ---
