Should I Engage Political Trolls?

To respond to the OP.
why wrestle with a pig? You both get dirty, etc. The issue is that you are already worked up. For me, the goal is to calm down. engaging in useless arguments is not the way to do that.
Ignore the trolls. Better yet, leave that media and go find some place where there aren’t any trolls-or at least strive for that ideal (like here).

Let me tell you a little story.

I had foster brothers when I was a kid. One of those kids grew up, got married and had kids of his own. They live in small town Iowa, where the guy is a waste of space going from temporary job to part time job without any plan. His wife is a stay at home type. They’re shit people. They’ve burned through several churches leaching off help and assistance until they can’t get any more and then move on. They came up to visit my parents about 7-8 years ago. It was 3pm and their children (approx 6-8 years old) had not eaten yet that day.

Well, the wife befriended myself, my mother and one of my sisters on Facebook, where it turned out that she is a right wing loon. At one point she posted this crap about how illegal aliens collect $1 trillion per year in welfare. :smack:

Well, I posted the falsehood of this, in that the entire welfare budget of the US is less than half of that and illegal aliens are not eligible for benefits. With sources.

Her first response was “You don’t have to read it.”

I pointed out that she was posting false information, that I had showed her it was false, and that she should make an effort to see if the things she believes and posts are true, because she was actually slandering her own government.

Her response was again, “if you don’t like it, don’t read it.”

At that point I told her that she was not a good person and unfriended her. She responded by unfriending my mother and sister and cutting off all contact with my family.

Well, here is a case where engaging a troll is clearly the right thing to do! A little research and a few minutes and you and your family get a huge reward.
Sometimes the good guys win.
