Aww take it! He’s only 11, and IMHO it’s pretty good that he makes it. 11 is still a baby. If he was 14 or 15 I would say let him learn. But not 11.

Wow. I too realize I must call and tell my mom how much I love her and how great she is. She taught us all sorts of lessons, some of them being love, kindness, and always being there for us. In no universe would she have refused to bring one of us our lunch if we had forgotten it and she could. I suppose if we had forgotten to bring it every day or something and this was the 5th day, but…food? and mom? They kind of go together. I just can’t her not doing it. And my baby is only 5 months old right now, but I cannot imagine telling him I wasn’t bringing him his lunch. Of course, he can’t talk back yet…

I already thanked both of my parents repeatedly for teaching me to be self-sufficient. Because of what my parents taught me I was able to work my way through school, pay a house off in 10 years, build a garage, fix and build up cars, restore an airplane, replace all the sewer and water lines in my house and a host of other projects. My friends lived similar lives under the same parental guidance.

The idea that everybody makes mistakes is a given but I don’t understand the mindset that places a parent in the position of responsibility for the mistake. If little Johnny knocks over a vase then he can at least be expected to clean it up. As I said before, it would never occur to me to call my mom for such a trivial problem. She’s not my servant and it would only a few hours before school lets out.

I absolutely think the OP should bring her son his lunch.

It’s been almost 4 days and the poor kid must be starved.

Oh, bullshit. He was the one who started with that kind of discourse, talking about chauffeurs & billing kids and “how times have changed”. The insinuation was quite clear, and I responded in kind.

Asking someone for a favor does not mean that they are your servant. Nor does it mean that you pick up after your child, or fail to teach him or her responsibilities. You can take those strawmen out back and light them on fire.

I’m not sure that last is proof of the first. 😃
