…I hate to tell you this: but but extraordinary rendition is a unambiguous violation of international law and it is a practice that is almost exclusively the domain of the United States. The US kidnaps people off the streets of foreign countries, don’t allow them to obtain counsel, don’t allow them to seek bail, and some never experience any sort of proceedings before being shipped off to some country to get tortured. They aren’t tried in front of a jury of their peers and that doesn’t happen in a public venue. A judge doesn’t review the facts and a judge does not pronounce judgement on them.
You do much more than stick a gun in the ribs. You stick a gun at their foreheads and demand they give you information. You smear fake menstrual blood on their faces. You torture people and call it “enhanced interrogation techniques”
So please: spare me the tears. If you think that “Lochte was a victim of robbery” then take a moment to look at what has been done in the name of the people of the United States since The War Against Terror began. If Lochte doesn’t want to be subject to the local laws and customs of another country then tell him to stay the fuck at home.
Oh yes, it’s a national sport. One’s place in the American military is determined by how many people each soldier has kidnapped and tortured. In fact, if you’re in the Army, you’ll never go to any rate higher than E-3 unless you’ve captured and tortured unruly civilians. I think it’s even codified in the UCMJ.
I agree with one thing you said. Lochte, *stay the fuck at home *and let that third world judicial nightmare of corruption pound sand.

What the fuck? Is Lochte supposed to stand trial as a scapegoat for all of the U.S.A.'s misdeeds?
To me Lochte is a hair dying, grills wearing, self absorbed primadonna with a penchant for tall tails. But he WAS forced at gun point to make restitution by security cops. Even if these were legitimate representatives of Brazilian law enforcement I would question the legality of their actions.
If what the security people did was legal in Brazil then WTH?. If it wasn’t legal then WTH?
I’m starting to think Lochte is owed an apology. I don’t see anything positive for Brazil in this going forward.
I view the initial incident as a pay us some money to fix this mess, and we won’t press charges.
Didn’t he also break down a bathroom door? My understanding is that the fines were for filing a false police report.
Turns out he didn’t … quoted a few times upthread. Seems like that accusation will never be shaken, though.
Make him swim back. Might be the only thing he ever beats Phelps at.
