The news right now (both AP and NYT) says that Israel accuses Hamas of not following the deal because they are too slow in releasing remains of dead hostages, and Israel is therefore reducing the number of aid trucks allowed to enter Gaza.

Here’s one from BBC:

> **[Israeli military says bodies of four more hostages are back in Israel with...](https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cx2r2z0gyp7t?post=asset%3Aff5fd272-aa0b-49c5-bdbb-a94254e59841#post)**

> It follow[reports that Israel will not open the Rafah border crossing](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cx2r2z0gyp7t?post=asset%3A629b1918-bad2-4635-a68f-bbd222e893a8#post) between Egypt and Gaza on Wednesday, and will reduce the flow of aid into the territory, in response to Hamas handing over only four of 28 bodies of deceased hostages on Monday.

And meanwhile

> **[Exclusive | Terrified Gazans fear Hamas won’t disarm as terrorists massacre...](https://nypost.com/2025/10/14/world-news/terrified-gazans-fear-hamas-wont-disarm-as-terrorists-massacre-palestinians/)**
>
> From the first moment the Israeli planes disappeared from the sky, Hamas began punishing the families,” one Gazan activist in the war-torn land told The Post.

And

Israel says it opens fire on suspects in Gaza, local authorities report six killed -
[https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israel-says-it-opens-fire-suspects-gaza-local-authorities-report-six-killed-2025-10-14/](https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israel-says-it-opens-fire-suspects-gaza-local-authorities-report-six-killed-2025-10-14/)

And Trump is more interested in how he’s photographed than in the actual deal.

So I’m guessing this is not leading to lasting peace.

They have been saying that they don’t know where some of the bodies are which is completely plausible. If was my former loved one, they can keep the body as far as I care.

So they’ve agreed to do what they had agreed to do before, and they haven’t agreed to do what they hadn’t agreed to do before. Got it.

They wouldn’t agree to disarmament last time and they won’t agree to disarmament now. You said “the plan involves Hamas disarming”. Hamas disagrees with that.

If you ignore the details of the prior plan and current plan, I guess you can squint and pretend that they’re different.

Well, apart from the original article in which the statement was made by an Israeli negotiator involved in the ceasefire negotiations. That seems like “evidence” to me.

Note that this was specifically about what Hamas was offering. The US and Israel wouldn’t agree to those terms under Biden.

This is true.

What - after we were just told by Trump it was going to last? I guess all that “Phase 2” stuff is now moot.

Mind you, the agreement wouldn’t have held under Biden either.

Before they did not agree to release the hostages in exchange for a ceasefire. This time, they did.

> [@Gyrate](#):

Hamas was offering _nothing_ unless Israel agreed to withdraw permanently with Hamas keeping their weapons. Now they agreed to release the hostages and a ceasefire without Israel withdrawing permanently. That’s totally different.

He _did not make the statement you claim he is making_. He did not say that Hamas agreed to release the prisoners without an Israeli withdrawal.

**Moderating:**

After working with the OP, we’ve acknowledged the thread was drifting, but that the question of the success of the Deal, and Trump’s support for it (or lack thereof) is still central to the original question. So I’m _slightly_ opening it up because otherwise just about everything posted recently would otherwise be a technical hijack. Please be mindful that this is a developing situation, tempers are high, and reporting is incomplete. As always **attack the post, not the poster**.

Title amended to reflect the widening of the topic.

How long does a peace deal have to keep the peace for it to count as a peace deal?

IMHO, if it survives at least a generation, it’s a legitimate peace deal.

If you can’t have a single generation living without their country being war-torn, it’s not genuine peace.

The trickier part is, what if what we achieve is to stop the immediate large scale calamity, only to get just a reversion to drawn-out low-intensity conflict with intermittent flare-ups.

20 hostages have been released after 738 days of torturous hell inflicted on them by Hamas. Even if the war starts up again tomorrow, that deserves credit.

Another important factor are points 15 thru 17 in Trump’s plan. If the global community, especially the US, Egypt, and Qatar actually have the willingness to implement this, it doesn’t _matter_ if Hamas agrees or not:

> [@](#):
>
> 1. The United States will work with Arab and international partners to develop a temporary International Stabilisation Force (ISF) to immediately deploy in Gaza. The ISF will train and provide support to vetted Palestinian police forces in Gaza, and will consult with Jordan and Egypt who have extensive experience in this field. This force will be the long-term internal security solution. The ISF will work with Israel and Egypt to help secure border areas, along with newly trained Palestinian police forces. It is critical to prevent munitions from entering Gaza and to facilitate the rapid and secure flow of goods to rebuild and revitalize Gaza. A deconfliction mechanism will be agreed upon by the parties.
>
> 2. Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza. As the ISF establishes control and stability, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will withdraw based on standards, milestones, and timeframes linked to demilitarization that will be agreed upon between the IDF, ISF, the guarantors, and the United States, with the objective of a secure Gaza that no longer poses a threat to Israel, Egypt, or its citizens. Practically, the IDF will progressively hand over the Gaza territory it occupies to the ISF according to an agreement they will make with the transitional authority until they are withdrawn completely from Gaza, save for a security perimeter presence that will remain until Gaza is properly secure from any resurgent terror threat.
>
> 3. In the event Hamas delays or rejects this proposal, the above, including the scaled-up aid operation, will proceed in the terror-free areas handed over from the IDF to the ISF.

If the ISF is actually established, manned, armed, and funded then control of Gaza can slowly be handed to it bit by bit. It’s exactly the sort of starving Hamas of oxygen by replacing and supplanting it that I’ve suggested is the only solution since October of 2023.

Also, and I can’t believe that I’m about to say this sentence about Mahmoud Abbas, but this seems like a really positive development:

[https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog\_entry/pas-mahmoud-abbas-we-have-begun-reforms-in-coordination-with-the-united-states/](https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/pas-mahmoud-abbas-we-have-begun-reforms-in-coordination-with-the-united-states/)

This is the first time that Abbas has spoken to Israeli media in years. If he is actually implementing these reforms, and of course that’s a big _if_, that would be absolutely massive. This could be the PA finally making the changes it needs to if it wants PA control of Gaza to be palatable to Israelis.

This I can agree with.

I still have a cynical voice in my head thinking that’s the only objective the a-hole twins really thought / cared could realistically be achieved. Donnie crowing about it and completely overselling it as “peace in the Middle East” just sounds like his usual schtick but to a larger audience. It’s like he thinks the world is as stupid as his base, and when he declares he’s brought peace (or ended _another_ war), he just expects everyone to go along. Jeez, what a one trick pony phony.

The statement he made is the statement I claimed he made. I didn’t claim he said Hamas had agreed to disarmament. I didn’t claim he said that Hamas agreed to release the prisoners without an Israeli withdrawal. I claimed he said that the terms that Hamas had originally agreed to under Biden (note that these were _before_ the terms of the January 2025 ceasefire) were the same terms that Hamas had agreed to now. Which is what he said. So I did not make the statement you claim I am making.

This is self contradictory.

The terms agreed to _now_ involve Hamas releasing the prisoners without an Israeli withdrawal.

They did _not_ agree to that previously.

Ergo, what they agreed to before is not the same as what they agreed to now.

It’s _really_ not complicated.
