I think there are a lot of red herrings in here, but that tends to happen when a long thread meanders. For me, the OP is a simple question and I believe its answer is best taken from ethical principle. It has nothing to do with what Christians do. Or what Muslims do. Or the history of the Catholic Church. It has to do, for me, with the fact that people own their minds, and their right to express themselves is natural.
