[Arts & Letters Daily](http://www.aldaily.com/) will link you to tons of provacative essays, book reviews and articles about various intellectual pursuits. [Gawker](http://www.gawker.com/) gives you the snarky lowdown on what’s happening in New York City. [Obscure Store and Reading Room](http://www.obscurestore.com/) links to the best dozen stories of the day. [Blind Item Rehash](http://www.dreamwater.org/agc/BLINDITEMS/MAINPAGE.html) lists blind items from the tabloids, then takes guesses at which celebrities they’re talking about. [The A List](http://www.geocities.com/mnussitch/gossip.html) is full of scurrulous gossip and is not afraid to name names. Well, except for _one name_ in patricular: > [@](#): > > \*\*Cruise, Tom. \*\*Oh, definitely not a Friend Of Dorothy. Why would you ever think such a thing? No, certainly not. And he definitely doesn’t force his gay lovers to sign lengthy non-disclosure contracts before he gets involved with them; that’s just a vile, untrue rumor started to bring shame on this quite emphatically heterosexual movie star. Certainly not someone who has and enjoys sex with lots of men. One would never hear Mr. Cruise described as “awkward and inarticulate” when speaking without a script, and certainly never hear him described as “vain, shallow, and pretentious.” No, certainly not–the reverse is true of Mr. Cruise! $cientologist. Vain & arrogant. Never graduated from high school. Acted badly towards Nicole Kidman during their break-up, which was caused partially by his insistence on raising the kids $cientologist (she wanted them raised Catholic) and partially because of her pregnancy, which may have been his and may have been Ewan McGregor’s. Broke up with Nicole via his representatives. (Cruise, you swine.) Linked with Patricia Arquette, Cher, Penelope Cruz, Rebecca De Mornay, Nelly Furtado, Anthony Hopkins, Nicole Kidman, Heather Locklear, Paul Newman, Lisa Marie Presley, and Mimi Rogers. That site alone will keep you occupied for hours. ---

> [@](#): > > \*Originally posted by Tanaqui \* > Related to this question, I once saw a link on this board to a series of posts (on some other message board) about the adventures of someone working in a porno video store. Does anyone have a link to it? It was pretty funny, and interesting too, if I remember correctly. That’d be [True Porn Clerk Stories](http://www.improvisation.ws/mb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4475). I never found as funny as apparently everyone else in the world did, but more good-humored and good-natured, and definitely thoughtful and an entertaining read. ---

Thanks for the welcomes and the unexpected number of responses! I had thought that the glory days of actual writing on the Internet were past, but I guess not. Now I have about 500 hours of reading ahead of me. That porno-store clerk log is an _old_ classic and Dave Barry is one that I forgot to add in my original post. I actually feel better about the Internet because of this thread. go figure. ---

I’m so glad someone else mentioned Tomato Nation. Another Doper pointed me to it. I don’t think it gets updated as often now, but the archives are great. The author is also affiliated with the Television Without Pity site. [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/show-me-web-sites-that-are-entertaining-to-read/214434.md?page=1)
