# Show of hands?

Okay, who played (plays) Role-Playing Games? I’m not talking about cranking up the Playstation for some Final Fantasy. I mean an entire night with a bunch of guys eating doritos and slaying elves. I’m talking about AD&D or Senzar or one of that bunch. Anybody?
Oh, and BTW, if no one raises their hand, I never touched the stuff.

In high school it was the _old_ D&D (as in the _boxed sets_), then I stopped for a while, then for a while we played Champions, and I haven’t played that in a few years.
Of course, I make up for it by going to sci-fi conventions, I’m in the SCA, play Cosmic Encounter, and I post here. 🙂

Not in a couple of years - my gaming group kind of imploded. But while it lasted, it was great.
I grew up on D&D, started in third grade, played through early high school, picked it up again in college. _sigh_ I miss those games.

How many times did you guys play Module B2 just to get a newbie going?
You know, I was in college before I realized that people could create their own adventures, instead of buying modules in the store. Go figure.

Used to play AD&D a lot. Then our DM got religion, and no one else really stepped in. _sigh_
Also played Champions some, and when we were feeling goofy we’d play Toon.

I was peripherally involved in a Vampire: The Masquerade game a few years back. I was a haunted Sabbat Malkavian with a buttload of points of Obfuscate and a penchant for diablerie. What I really wanted to be was a wraith, but I couldn’t figure out the rules.

AD&D through HS and College.
A few months ago a bunch of us tried getting a campaign together, but it washed out rather quickly. (Mainly because I was the cleric. Usually, I get VERY lucky rolls, but this time…well, let’s just say they were calling me “Cleric Kevorkian”. I was killing people with minor flesh wounds. It was awful. We never even made it out of town).

No (for obvious reasons), but I did both hate and admire the menfolk in Champions - even the scrawny ones had definition. {sigh}

Right here. All through high school, played AD&D, Villains & Vigilantes, Marvel Super Heroes, Paranoia, Battletech…but, I never found a crowd to play with when I got to college, so I kinda let the gaming slide away. Wish I could find a V&V crowd; that was one fun game.

AD&D was my social outlet in high school.
I’ve also played Champions (old school rules), GURPS, Battletech, Carwars, Hol (Pronounced “hole”), Cyberpunk, a little bit of Shadowrun, Street Fighter, and the occasional tabletop game.

{codger voice}Back in the olden days, when I was just a lad, we didn’t have no stinkin’ _boxed sets_, just a few mimeographed rule sheets and monster descriptions. And it was uphill both ways!{/codger voice}
Seriously. D&D and related RPGs were just getting started when I moved to California in 1976. The D&D manuals were sold separately, and half of our stuff came from magazines. We looked down on AD&D as an overpackaged sell-out.
{shameless name dropping}I used to play with some the guys who _invented_ Runequest. My next-door neighbor wrote “The Lair of Great Cthulu” in the back of “Call of Cthulu”. At a con, I even once played a game of CofC with **Dave Hargrave** (and if you know who _he_ is, you _definitely_ didn’t get laid in high school).{/shameless name dropping}
Got bored with the whole scene about 15 years ago and haven’t played it since.
