Nice to see you back, Anthracite. I haven’t been here as much myself, lately, but I hadn’t seen anything from you in ages. A couple of random thoughts the issue you raised: First, I too will own up to being remiss in this area, though I do try to issue a thank you to everyone who replied, rather than each person individually. It can’t use _that_ much bandwidth to say “Thanks, everyone”. Second, if, as in the OP’s hypothetical posts, you really do get 1e+28 good, well-thought out legitimate answers with sources, then isn’t there very likely going to be a great amount of overlapping content? At least in GQ, where the content should remain factual, anyway. Maybe the person who posts the original question should be allowed to close his/her own thread after a certain period of time. When I asked a moderator why we couldn’t close our own threads I was told that it was to prevent people from using threads just to vent anger or insults and then running away by disallowing any response. But if the thread had to stay open for say, 24 hours, then maybe that would eliminate that possibility. ---

That might be a good way to do it, **javaman** , but the Board software and rules would not allow that. And it could be abused easily too, and since there are so many out there just itching to abuse the Board it seems… ---
