(We already leave the fan running for quite a while during and after the showers, and have no windows in our b/r).
As for washing it, yeah I use the washing machine, but it says not to put the curtain in the dryer, and I hate lugging a wet curtain up from the laundry room and then trying to hang it … ugh … Yeah, I’m lazy, so what?!?
PS - I need to add, the reason I use this stuff instead of bleach is because I have some “health type” issues with bleach that have recently developed. The scrub free stuff smells like Lemons.
I ignore the “no dryer” instruction entirely. I put it in for about five minutes with the couple of heavy wet towels that I used to wash it and let it get good and warm. If it is one of the liners that has a smooth surface sometimes its sticks to itself badly, but it peels right apart. Hang it while it is still warm and it hangs nice and straight.
For years I also bought what essentially were “disposable” liners from the dollar stores. Mr. AdoptaMom finally convinced me to invest in a nice cloth shower curtain liner with metal grommets similar to this one and I haven’t had to buy a new liner in YEARS! It still occasionally gets gross, so I just toss it in the washer and use the hottest water setting. I also use bleach, but you could skip that. I can either put mine in the drier or hang it up straight from the washer.
I’ve always thought cloth shower curtains looked nicer, too. I just haven’t replaced mine because I can’t justify the expense to my mind unless the old one is unusable, and my bleach solution keeps it going.
Take your old liners and fold 'em up real purty and keep a couple in the trunk of your car for use as 1) protection from the dirty ground when changing a flat, and 2) protection from the rain when changing a flat.
That’s good, but it’s much stronger than necessary. 20 to 1 is enough to qualify for government “kills everything” standards. To double that “just to make sure,” you can put 2 ounces of bleach in a 20 ounce sprayer.
Strong solutions of bleach, when sprayed, can be very irritating to eyes, nose, lungs, and any skin it happens to get to. Not exactly poisonous, but it will make you wish it hadn’t happened.
You know, the bleach spray works wonders, and people don’t take advantage of it. Whenever I start getting mold/mildew growing in my shower, I just spray it down and it disappears in minutes, and keeps it gone for months. No scrubbing! Why do peopole spend so much time and money with those mildew tub and tile cleaners to get rid of mildew when bleach/water spray does the trick with no effort! I love it! (Of course you do need the cleaners to get rid of soap scum…)
There’s a commercial product called Kaboom! which is supposed to take care of both mold and scum by simply spraying it and letting the surface drip-dry.
I’ve only used it on ground-in dirt between flore tiles and for soap scum. For both of those jobs, it’s amazing. I cannot testify to the mold-killing abilities 'cause I always use my bleachwater for that.
