It was a throw away joke on an extremely funny television show. It’s not anything special, and it certainly isn’t worth threatening lawsuits, treating McDonald’s employees like shit, buying it on ebay for hundreds of dollars, and whining constantly online about your hyper-entitled, desperate for geek cred, pathetic need to have your every fucking whim met and met immediately. McDonald’s screwed up by severely underestimated your sense of entitlement and the employees who took the packets for themselves deserve a bit of shrapnel too, but, my god, just shut the fuck up about it already. ---

Look, here’s the truth of it. Rick & Morty averaged 2.5 million viewers this last season. You can probably add another million who watched from less than legal sources or after the fact. When you have approximately 3.5 million fans of something, and you move forward with a promotion that distributes only 20 packets of sauce to 200 locations (a mere 4,000 total packets), you’re setting yourself up to fail, and fail miserably, pissing off a lot of people. It was an insanely stupid decision by McDonalds corporate. Lawsuits? Threats? Just the usual assholes at work. The ones making threats and inciting violence deserve to be prosecuted, just like anyone else who walks that path. ---

Yeah…the fans ARE being crazy assed dicks…but Mc screwed the pooch pretty well here too. ---

The OP is only partly right; the Szechuan sauce is a flash in the pan, what we really need back is the hot mustard! The breakfast sandwiches are a pale shadow of their former selves without the hot mustard. Same for the nuggets they are barely edible now. ---

Anybody with half a brain would have said something like “set up the assembly line…run enough to give EVERY Mc Ds’ locations enough sauce for a day or two” Sure the set up cost for a limited run are not free…but gawd damn…think how much MORE business they would have generated for that day.
