I’ve always thought of it as kind of ironic that people like to bash America for being to nationalistic, but when it come to national sporting events(world cup, olympics) the vast majority of Americans couldn’t give a flying fuck compared to most other nations. ---

Just last week a riot of soccer fans in Moscow upset at their team’s loss killed two and injured 75. And yet it’s the Americans who are the sole exception to the peaceful nature of soccer fans the world over? As far as sports violence in the world goes, American soccer fans are probably responsible for as much as Trinidadian curling fans. Actually, we may have to leave out youth leagues there. Irate soccer moms and dads can sometimes be dangerous. ---

Okay, for all of you giving poor **lobley** a hard time, imagine this… Next summer olympics during the basketball competition, Croatia comes in shooting the lights out and take out USA in the semifinals. How do you figure you’d all feel about that? You know good god damn well the persident would impose trade sanctions or some bullshit… The fact that most of you don’t even give a shit is frustrating to the rest of us who actually care. It is, after all, par for the course though. Fuck cites. ---

I doubt he would. As would the majority of us (well, I know I wouldn’t care if Croatia beat us in b-ball). It’s not a big deal. It’s just sports, for goodness sakes. I enjoy a good NFL game myself but I don’t see rioting as a necessity if a certain team loses. I’ve been to enough drunken Monday Night Football bar parties where I have yet to see a fight break out. ---

[personal and minor hijack]I wasn’t serious about the trade sanctions just a bit of exageration…I just am being forced to miss two seasons of soccer due to injury and was excited for the world cup…I lost a bunch of money earlier this week because I bet a pile on Portugal (a team USA knocked out) so I’m a little bitter is all [/personal and minor hijack] ---

You really, really, really think that? It’s far more likely that the (American) sports announcers would solemnly pontificate on how wonderful Croatia is because it won a basketball game. Then there would be a five-minute special on Croatia’s recent history. Then there would be close-ups of the happy Croatians. The next morning, there would be interviews with Happy Croatian Basketball Players. Sanctions…\ ---
