Well, the first few times I heard it being actually used in a debate, it worked against me, as all i could do is šŸ˜•šŸ˜•šŸ˜•šŸ˜• WTF thatā€™s a debate point? ---

I guess when they say that you could point out that god first made Adam and a bunch of animals. And apparently hoped Adam would fid a ā€œhelpmeetā€ amough one of them. And only when he didnā€™t did he create Eve. So apparently godā€™s real plan for our sexuality involved Fido. ---

When someone uses this line on me, I usally do the following: Homophone: God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Me: Adam and Eve and Steve who? Homophobe: Adam and Even. You know. The first people God created. Me: And when did he create Steve? Homophobe: He didnā€™t. Me: Then who created Steve? Homophobe: Nobody created Steve. He doesnā€™t exist. Me: I know a Steve. He most certainly does exist. Homophobe: Iā€™m not talking about the Steve you know. Me: Then who are you talking about? Homophobe: Iā€™m talking about Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. Me: Whatā€™s the Garden of Eden? Homophobe: Thatā€™s where Adam and Eve lived after God created them. Me: Then where did Steve live? Homophobe: I keep telling you, thereā€™s no Steve! Me: Then why did you bring him up? Keep doing this for about five or six hours. ---

Iā€™m reminded of that David Rakoff (sp?) comment, from his book Fraud. Heā€™s up in New England where a lot of names are abbreviated (i.e., people are calling him Dave). So his response to ā€œGod made Adam and Eve, not Adam and STEVE!ā€ is, ā€œNo. God forbid. Heavensā€¦not Adam and Steve. Adam and Steven.ā€ ---

It is far easier to repeat pithy one-liners than to actually defend oneā€™s one-sided, closed-minded and utterly ignorant viewpoint. That is why you hear that statement more than the phrase ā€œWell, I hadnā€™t considered thatā€ or ā€œMy pastor never mentioned that argument/factā€. It does put a _terrible_ strain on some to be required to actually think, as opposed to merely parroting whatever was said on The 700 Club. ---
