Thanks, Ike! It’s my favorite song – especially the version off the immortal jazz album, _John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman_. Coltrane is, of course, a god, and Hartman’s deep, rich voice seems to be the perfect vehicle for “Lush Life.” I sing in exactly the same range as Johnny Hartman, which may bear on why I like him so much. Pity he only made about a half dozen albums. Maybe I should do a cookbook called “Living the Lush Life”, full of recipes that include alcohol as an ingredient. _grin_ Sorry everyone…we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread already in progress. * * * Live a Lush Life Da Chef ---

Chef: I think the problem was that, of the approximately seven dozen versions of “Lush Life” I have, 99% are instrumental. (Best recording is a toss-up, but I’d probably go with the lordly, jaw-dropping piano/bass/drums treatment on the late Phineas Newborn’s A WORLD OF PIANO. Ol’ Phineas is an orchestra unto himself.) Odd coincidence: SaxFace (nee Melanie) and I had lunch together yesterday, and she told me that HARTMAN & COLTRANE was HER favorite album too. Looks like I’ll have to dig my copy out and give it another spin…something’s trying to tell me something. Satan: “Yer pal, WallyM7” ? Nahhhhhh…it just doesn’t have the same ring… * * * Uke ---

mine, the only sig line I’ve ever had as an SDMB member (and which I still use in email at times, depending on which program I’m using for email) is from Wayne Knight. Although he played three (that I’m aware of) animated characters in 1999, this one was from his blurb in [tarzan.com](http://tarzan.com) where he described his experience as portaying the elephant Tantor. * * * “I’m just too much for human existence – I should be animated.” –Wayne Knight ---

Mine is from _Willow_. The “quotees” are Rool and Franjean, the brownies. My last sig quote (“I get along well with everyone.”) was from _Fletch’s Fortune_, said by Fletch. I have a whole bunch of sig lines. I just cut and past them in, as the whim moves me, from a Word file which I also use to write my replies. (it also has the HTML code for centering my signature at the end of my post, and the little line of dashes that makes my pasted sig look line the one that SDMB adds. When I get tired of them, I go shop for more, on the web, or from my library. **\

I use my sig with all my e-mail, because e-mail is virtual mail. It also fits with my interest in physics. And I am not the real Dr. Matrix. He was invented by Martin Gardner and apparently he (Dr. Matrix) died in the 80’s. So I am the virtual DrMatrix. Tris, what a good idea! I’ll have to do that-I like to change my sig (which I haven’t done in a million years) but hate spending the time finding something witty or moving. Mine is from Dombey & Son by Charles Dickens. Chef, yeah, I love that whole album. I love Coltrane. I love Hartman. I love “Lush Life”. I love Strayhorn. I did notice your sig line, btw. That song, coincidentally, is really hard to play on a saxophone. It just sounds like a monotone scale. I wish I had some soul. Uke doesn’t get his kicks from Coltrane, though. We’ve had numerous discussions about him. I can’t convince him - maybe he’ll listen to you. My sig line refers to my former name on this message board (which was Melanie).
