*Sigh* "Contains dipictions of alternative lifestyles. Viewer discretion is advised"

I don’t know about other people, but I pretty much expect anime to have lots of blood and gore and violence and nudity. In the tiny bit I’ve seen, it seems to be pretty standard. So I can understand people just not bothering with violence warnings, especially since anime isn’t really marketed to kids. To me, putting a violence warning on anime is like putting labels on a horse saying “Warning: This animal weighs 1000 pounds and has very hard feet. Protective footwear is advised.” No shit, Sherlock.

I get the feeling that the label isn’t for parents or children so much as for homophobic adults who might want to see the movie. I mean, how many children want to watch anime, especially stuff with :retch, spit, gag: kissing in it? (This isn’t a kissing book, is it?)

Anyone here with enough creativity to make an “Have I caught Gay” questionare for IMHO? It would be a good laugh if done well. The OP’er might give medical advice to those who answer the OP.

In Europe, they censor violence but leave in sex.

In America, they censor sex but leave in violence.

Neither, of which, are good.

Or make sense.

I believe the correct term is “the gay.”

“Is he the GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY?” - Margaret Cho’s mom

It reminds me of the policy at theforce.net, which won’t allow any slash fan fiction, even G rated, but lets us right up to PG-13 fiction if it’s about straights.

Or how everyone thinks that slash=explicit sex. It doesn’t.

Where do you get the idea that violence is censored in Europe?

It’s not. What does happen, is that violent movies tend to be shown at later hours, say after 9 PM or so. I’ve seen extremely violent movies on American TV at 8 AM on a Sunday - you’d never see that in Europe, unless we’re talking about a paid-per-view movie channel.

Same for the sex: you won’t catch it at 8 AM on a regular channel. But it can be seen at 23:00 or so, should you care for it. And even then, there ARE variations between the various countries: while the Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands might be very liberal, the attitude in the UK and Spain is a lot more conservative.

So, in short, “Europe” doesn’t censor violence, and sex is not as readily available on TV as it is often claimed to be.

Poor guy has to do the parade all by himself…
