# Sights and pastimes in Cape Town and in Amsterdam

Later this month my gf and I are taking a trip which includes a 3-4 free days in Cape Town (mostly I’ll be working and she’ll be free) and a 3-day layover in Amsterdam on the way home.

We’re doing the usual travelers’ research on both places, of course, but I wonder if Dopers native to, or otherwise familiar with, those cities can recommend favorite, on- or off-the-beaten-track experiences of seeing, doing, eating, etc.

Besides touristy things like museums, our interests include day hiking, swimming, affordable good food, music/dance (we like watching but love participating, like at a folk dance or song circle), traditional architecture, and I should probably mention food again.

If you had a few days in those places, what would you do?
