A day I wish I’d had a camera with me … I drove by a Hooters restaurant whose neon sign was malfunctioning. The letters are lit in three groups: HO|OTE|RS. But the middle section has lost power or burned out. So the sign just reads: HO RS . It was quite a sight … ---

There is (or at least used to be) a bait shop in East Haven, CT, called ‘Master Bait & Tackle’. I’m not making this up, I’ve seen it, I’ve been inside it (heh). It’s also the sort of thing you’d expect in East Haven, CT. I have a picture somewhere, but a.) I can’t find it and b.) a lot of people would probably say it’s 'shopped anyway. ---

There was (is?) an electrical contracting company in my town, called Bates Electric. For a while there, one of their trucks had the license plate MSTR. ---

Years ago, the theater near where I lived had _Mission to Mars_ on the marquee. Underneath was a hand made sign that said, “Now Hiring.” To this day, I regret not getting a picture of that. ---

Payson, Arizona is on the Mogollon Rim. Everything up there is named Rim something-or-other, including the alcoholic beverage store . . . Rim Liquor. My dad and I stopped in there like some modern day Beavis and Buttheads and talked to the owner for awhile. It’s a very Mormon-dominated area, and it was a headache just to get a liquor store started, and one of the things he did as a concession was give it the blandest name possible, having no idea of any dirty connotations. It’s since been in Maxim magazine, and he sells tshirts now. ---
