Iā€™m Dwala Gwinnette Wishon. Dwala is rarely read correctly, and I hate the pronounciation itā€™s given. This is my first post at StraightDope; maybe if I announce now that Iā€™m dway ā€¢ la, not dwah ā€¢ la, it will settle in your mindsā€¦ My middle name stems from my father driving through Gwinnett, GA on his way back from the Red Hat Poultry Plant on the day of my birth. Wishon is pronounced wishā€¢on. I have:[ul] ā€¢ a name nobody can pronounce, ā€¢ a name after a place I wouldnā€™t visit, ā€¢ and a name that incites gleeful jokes first graders originally made me aware of.[/ul]Maybe _this_ is the true reason why Iā€™m single. Tracy is my girlfriendā€™s given name, and i love it! i would absolutely love it if she would allow me to call her this. Instead, she insists that i call her Kale (rhymes with ā€œsailā€, a name which she made up for herself because she felt that Tracy didnā€™t suit herā€¦ \ Kale is just so choppy and short. i dated a John before her. i like longer names, at least 2 syllables. my next SO will have a more flowing name. i have my eye on a Jose šŸ˜‰ My name is Nicole Belanger, and even _I_ canā€™t prounounce my last name correctly. .:throws up her arms and walks away:. ---

Iā€™ve never dated anyone with strange names, unles you count Fortenberry. Of course, if weā€™d wed, sheā€™d not have that. A friend of mineā€™s name is Young. I told him he needs to name his first born son Les B. Young. My girlfriend wonā€™t let me name our first born son Roy Elroy. Last name? McElroy Instead, heā€™ll be named David (after my uncle) Alan (after my uncle also, but with my spelling.) That makes his initials, DAM. And if he is to be anything like me, heā€™ll love it in 3rd grade. By the way, my girlfriend is not pregnant at this time. ---

I had a friend in High School whose last name was Woody. His first name was Ron so that wasnā€™t too bad but his poor little brother was Richard. Cruel parents. ALthough When Ron Graduated he signed up for the military. I think I teased him for weeks about working his way up the ranks, from a private Woody, to, someday, a Major Woody. I know itā€™s Juvenile, but it still makes me laugh. ---

I forgot, my friends name is Jaime. Pronounced Jay-me. her middle name is Noelle. She was born on Christmas day so her parents thought that name would be funny. In french, jā€™aime Noelle means I love Christmas. ---

Reading this thread, I kept trying to think of someone I had dated that might have had a strange name. The best I can come up with is Paige JereĆ© Gross. I actually liked her name, Paige, anyway, and we only broke up because, after a year, the long distance thing finally got old (this was in the college years). Though we did get back together every time I went to Cincinnatiā€¦anyway. My best friend only seemed to date Jennyā€™s in HS. Very odd. Itā€™s not that he broke up with other girls, he just never dated anyone _not_ named Jenny. Off the OP, but on the name topic, a friend of mine, the oldest of 6 boys, was named Jon Smith. His younger brothers were: Chris, Jeff, Andyā€¦and thatā€™s all I knew. But yeah, Jon Smith. Since people were talking about personal name problems, I think Iā€™m in the clear with **[shedding anonymity]** Eric, though youā€™d be surprised how many people try to spell it Erik, Erick or some silly thing. Simple four-letter middle name, too. **[/regaining some anonymity]** Iā€™m not even going to go into the screw-ups on my four letter last name (since it was already addressed **[here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=38003&pagenumber=2))**. If it werenā€™t for my confirmation name (6 letters), Iā€™d be completely represented by four-letter-words! :eek: ---
