I didn’t joke about smacking his grandma around or anything so joking about tormenting my kitties is not okay. Besides, less than 24 hours after ending things with him I met my current boyfriend who is moving in with me here shortly so I don’t feel too bad about walking away from someone who felt it appropriate to joke about cruelty to animals. Also, I am aware it is sort of a silly reason to walk out on a date, hence the thread title. 🙂 ---

The people who have said they’re turned off by ‘picky eaters’ would probably turn me off. I can’t stand people who have to involve themselves in what or how I eat. I do not give a shit what you eat unless it’s going to kill you or it belongs to me. I don’t like Chinese food, among other things. I just don’t. If you expect me to eat something I dislike just because you like it, I will be gone in 5 seconds flat. ---

Long hair on men – anything longer than collar length is a dealbreaker for me. Long nails on men. Ick. Inability to laugh at themselves. ---

I love this sentence. In my little world, I am usually getting hit with “Are you actually going to eat **that**?” I don’t care what you don’t like to eat. I have things that I absolutely will not eat. Saying something like…“Oh, I hate rice, it looks like maggots.” Would be the last I’d see a prospect. Not that it matters, Wife would kill me. ---

Women who are way too into their dogs. It’s OK to love your dog; I know I love mine. But hell, if you dress them or refer to them as your “children”; I will run for the hills. Same goes for anybody who names their pet Mr. \>insert name here\< Women who seem to have a cell phone growing out of their ear. Swearing. The occasional Fuck, Damn or shit is OK in times of stress but if you cus’ more than I do; major turn off. ---

A guy who has fingernails and/or hair longer than mine. My younger brother used to be really lazy about cutting his nails and would grow out his hair in a kind of shaggy 80s way and it would really drive me up the wall. I used to rail at him that he’d never get laid. 😛 ---

What bugs me no end is when someone agrees upon a restaurant, and then either can’t find _one single thing_ on the menu that’s acceptable, or has to make everything special (substitute this, change that, etc.). Be a grown-up. Either turn down the restaurant, or pick something off the menu and eat it. ---

I don’t consider myself a picky eater, but I absolutely hate when someone insists I try something after I decline. Thus, I’d certainly never force anyone to eat something they didn’t like, and I wouldn’t drag anyone to a restaurant they didn’t want to go to. However, if you agree to go, you need to find something on the menu you’ll eat and not complain, “There’s nothing I like.” You decided to go of your own free will, do your best to make everyone’s experience a good one. ---

If someone consistently agrees to go to particular restaurants but doesn’t actually want to eat what they offer, I can appreciate the disdain that might be felt by the dates of such people. I guess I just over-reacted to the dislike of picky eaters. I’m used to being told that I am one just because I happen not to like someone’s favourite dish. ETA: I think I would give a break to someone who has agreed to go but has never been to the restaurant before, if they wanted to order something sans a particular ingredient. But after that, they should choose not to go if they can’t eat there without requesting special changes. ---

This might seem obvious, but nothing sends me running faster than someone who makes me feel bad for liking something. I don’t criticize other people for their taste in movies, books, music, whatever. If I don’t like it then I just keep that to myself - why go on a rant about it? If they ask me for my opinion then I’ll say “Not my thing” in a nice way, and I expect the same. ---

People who say, “That’s funny!” when they think something is funny. This irks me no end. If you think it’s funny, then chuckle, or smirk, or smile appreciatively or something. Saying, “That’s funny!” instantly makes it not funny. I know this is silly. That’s why I put it in this thread.
