Is it true that the United States Government is pulling all silver dollars out of circulation?? ---

I am unaware of it. However, Silver Dollars rarely get circulated now anyway. Although the government still mints them every year, their worth in silver is more than a dollar and it would be unwise to spend it as such. They are now primarily used as collector’s items. I have heard that the saqagawea (sp) dollar will cease to be minted. ---

As **silver** dollars are deposited in banks, etc., they are slowly withdrawn, since they are worth more than $1.00 in silver. I have heard nothing about the government withdrawing dollar coins that are not “pure” (actually slightly alloyed to make them harder) silver. **Samclem** , who is a coin dealer by trade when not wearing his Mod. Hat and Nazi jackboots here, would be able to provide significantly more accurate information on this. ---

Well, if you go to [www.usmint.gov](http://www.usmint.gov), the first things you see are “Chief Justice John Marshall Silver Dollar” and “2005 American Eagle Silver Proof Coin”. The Silver coins are worth more than a dollar and thus you can’t buy them for a dollar, and you’d be a fool to spend them. But, I don’t see why you couldn’t. Of course the Susan B. Anthony, Sacajawea, and Eisenhower dollar coins, while not silver, are also still in circulation. If you buy stamps in a vending machine in the post office, and you are due more than $1 in change, you will likely get a Sacajawea or Susan B. Anthony dollar. ---
