Silver-halide, diazo or vesicular: which is the most common type of microfilm?

I’m writing an article on preservation via microfilm/microfiche, and while I can find all manner of discussion of the merits and demerits of each one I can’t find the answer to the seemingly simple question “what kind of film is most microfilm printed on”. I believe the answer is diazo copies are the most common and they are made from silver halide original images, but I’m not positive. Does anybody who works with film happen to know? (This isn’t the main gist or even particularly important to what I’m writing but just something I’d like to include if I can verify.)

Thanks,
J
