Actually they look somewhat like silver only they do not tarnish and have a little more depth of gloss I think. Sorry you have this impression of platinum; maybe you have seen some that was not cleaned regularly? ---

While not platinum, my engagement and wedding rings are white gold (very popular c 1978) and I seldom wear them. They’re shiny and attractive right now but if I were to wear them regularly they’d end up looking, in the words of my jeweller friend, 'like a couple of lumps of lead." Yellow gold dulls but it still looks good. ---

My wedding ring is white gold, and I have a couple of pieces of regular yellow gold. I prefer silver-colored metals like white gold or platinum, but I do wear regular gold too. I don’t like low-karat gold, though. The few yellow gold pieces I have are 24k. Solid-gold rings don’t wear well, which is why I don’t have any gold colored rings, just stuff like a gold chain, cufflinks, pins. ---

I like color, and contrast to help define and accentuate the color, so I always think gemstone jewelry looks vastly better in gold in a display or on a person. And on me, where I’m _so_ pale, silver just kind of blends in. If jewelry just blends in, what’s the point of wearing the stuff, ya know? \*This is also my issue with diamonds. They’re fine as an accent, but alone? Blah. Alone and set in silver-toned metals? Total snoresville. ---

When my mom died my dad gave me her wedding necklace, a gold and black chain called a mangal sutra, and I knew he had accepted it. My SO is Chinese and it’s very similar. When I started getting gold from his mom, I knew I was welcome in the family. We pass gold on from generation to generation and even I’ve got the bug. I would never buy gold, but I find myself loathe to part with even the pieces I have locked up in the safety deposit box that I never wear. I am aware in my head that it’s just gold…but when I think about selling it I balk. I’ve pretty much decided I’ll pass it on to a niece or maybe a nephew for his wife. ---

I’ve never liked gold. My high school, college rings and wedding band are all white gold/silver. I don’t even like gold doorknobs, etc. in the house. ---
