Sim City? No thanks, give me Cities: Skyline! New City building Sim from Paradox!

EA sucks butt.

Not completely:

The hype for this game is incredible. It’s currently the top seller on Steam, even after every Youtuber worth their salt has warned everyone against pre-ordering. Maxis/EA really, really dropped the ball with SimCity.

I haven’t really been keeping up, so could you expand on this? Is it just general “pre-ordering is a bad idea” talk, or are there already perceived flaws in the game?

It’s more a general admonition not to pre-order anything, ever. The biggest complaint I’ve seen is about “Chirpy” the bird icon that pops up when the game wants to notify you about certain events. If you want, you can already watch pre-release gameplay for yourself both on Youtube and Twitch.tv

Yeah, chirpy is the main complaint right now - which pretty much means this game is awesome-sauce if that’s the worst thing. And the devs have been listening because they actually updated the mod tools today to include API calls that allow you to move him or completely remove him.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him moved to the lower right corner for the release version.

I’ll be watching early reviews on this pretty closely, and if they’re good will likely purchase within the first week. The lack of a pre-order discount on Steam means that waiting is no big deal.

GMG has the game in their VIP section for $20.

Quill specifically stated that he was talking about “pre-ordering is a bad idea” in general and not about this particular game or company.

Or $18 from Nuuvem. (actually, GMG shows as $22 in the VIP section and Nuuvem is $18.70)

I don’t see the “deluxe edition” being worth another ten bucks for the landmark-style extra buildings though. I don’t really want the Eiffel Tower in my town anyway.

I like how this game looks very similar visually to SimCity 4. I agree with you that CitiesXL felt very sterile.

Good timing as it would seem that EA is shutting down Maxis, the creators of SimCity.

Anti Frenchite!

I splurged for the Deluxe. Wanted to support the devs/publisher and I do want me some statue of liberties!

See post #22.

I’ve not played any simulation games in years, but I watched the video review and found it interesting. Considering my lack of recent experience, would I be over my head with this? Does it come with documentation explains all the little icons I saw in the video? What’s that thing at the top of the screen that looked like a fat light blue bird?

It’s got deep root sinto classic Sim City in terms of gameplay. I’m pretty sure you’ll have fun figuring out the ins and outs.

Here’s a link to the manual:

But the gameplay videos are more fun to watch.

The birdy in the middle is Chirpy. He tweets messages about what’s happening in the city. Some people don’t like him/the location of the message son the screen. IT looks likes you’ll be able to change where the tweets are displayed though.

I’m trying to figure out if I have a machine capable of playing this game. The game specs tell me I need at least a 3.0GHz processor. My iMac tells me that the processor is an Intel Core i5 at 2.7 GHz. The internet tells me that that processor has a “turbo boost” speed of 3.2GHz. Does that mean it will work?

Your i5 will be fine. They Are referencing a much older processor.

Just one more day!!!

Man, I’ve been watching Quill18 vids on this game, and it’s just got my hype meter up into the red. From Dams that end up flooding sections of cities, to watching an individual make his commute walking, taking trains, taking busses, it’s just so cool, the level of simulation they’ve got going here. Certainly there’s much more meat in this city builder in terms of managing traffic than in any previous Sim City game I can recall.

Also, even before the game hits, there is already a mod to open up the map from the 9 squares (36 km sq.) to 32! (128 km sq) compare that to Sim City (2013’s) 4 km sq cities.

The game is also breaking records for Paradox, who say this is their most pre-ordered game to date. It’s been a Steam to seller for days now.

I am interested in this game. I hope it does not suck

I’m stoked for this game. If it sucks I’m going to be crushed.

And, of course, Can I Run It says my computer can’t do the recommended settings.
