He seems bemused by it, so good for him on that front. I’d always assumed it was friendly ribbing, but by this point it seems clear that it isn’t.

of course that brings up the next question, inspired by the animosity between these two shows…
(i still think it was good natured ribbing, but i could be wrong…)

who would win in a fight?

Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin
Bart or Stewie

(no, Batman is not eligible, even if he _is_ prepared 😉 )

Yeah, I’m still not seeing the genuine animosity, only good-natured ribbing.

I’ll give Homer the edge, just in the ability to take unlimited punishment.
But Stewie is an “Evil Genius”[sup]TM[/sup] and Bart is nothing but a mischievious troublemaking below average 10 year old.

You’ve got MacFarlane saying up there that the Simpsons writers hate their guts. I’ve heard Mike Reiss from The Simpsons say pretty much the same thing - that they consider Family Guy a ripoff.

true, all Homer needs to do is whack Peter in the knee, Peter will proceed to grab his knee and to that “FFFFFF, ahhhh, FFFFFF, ahhh” gag, giving Homer time to thwack peter in the skull with a board with a nail in it…

winner; Homer

how about a Duff beer Vs. Pawtucket Patriot beer drinking contest? 😉

(okay, okay, MacTech, enough contests… 😉 )

Well Duff appears to be a generic Simpson’s world Bud/Miller
Pawtucket Patriot appears to at least be a Samual Adams like Beer.

I give the taste edge to Pawtucket on this weak line of reasoning.

I’ll go with Homer & friends over Peter and Friends for “Consuming Mass Quantities.”
Of course knocking Barney off the wagon first is the key to Moe’s Marauders Victory.

I always figured Pawtucket Pat for being a nasty, hairy New England staple like Narragansett. Seems to fit Peter much better.

Joe’s a better shot and a better cop than Wiggum and the boys. Plus _Family Guy_’s willing to take on harder issues than _Simpsons_. _Family Guy_’s dealt with coke addiction, has a reoccuring pedophile character, and people are routinely killed on-screen.

I think Simpsons wins in the Asian category. Akira could definitely take Trisha Takanawa, and then Apu would kill him with a rancid hot dog. 😉

It’s the “Patriot” that made me equate it to Sam’s. No matter what, Duff is suppose to be a poor Quality Controlled Mass Produced beer or “Swill”.

Wasn’t there some animosity between Groening and Fox over the perceived attention the Family Guy was getting at the expense of Futurama?

Not sure if that’s true or not but I thought I would mention it.

Great episode. Kelsey Grammer has some pipes!

As much as I like the Family Guy, imho its best episodes come nowhere close to the Simpsons at its peak.

Yeah, but Stewie is going to need time to plan and build and whatnot. He tends to overthink things or rely upon that evil super genius staple: the overly complicated plan. Bart tends not to think at all, but simplicity is helpful in struggles like this. I give the battle to spikey head over football head.

Not to hijack things completely, but I remember from the Clerks cartoon commentary that the crew there weren’t big fans of Seth McFarlane either. Maybe the guy’s just a major tool.

Yeah, but Stewie often has an assortment of “toys” around with which to wreak havok, like the “Emission Impossible” episode.

I highly doubt Homer could win. I mean, Peter did go toe to toe with that chicken, twice. Homer couldn’t do that. Hell, Homer can’t even run past a couple of houses.

Homer held his ground quite well against Bart’s “Big Brother” in that showdown at the aquarium.

But he also got winded trying to run after Snake after he stole Marge’s purse. He has no endurance whatsoever.

Let’s not forget his boxing career, he can take a lot of abuse. Peter might be a better fighter and may even carry more weight, but Homer should be able to withstand a non-boxer until he exhausts himself.
