Yeah, it really would have been. I think Matt Groening says he was out of the room when they came up with the name, and it’s too bad he wasn’t around to argue them into using it.

I could’ve sworn that he was given a name much much later, but maybe I was thinking of Comic Book Guy.
I only saw the episode once, but ISTR that in that episode, Comic Book Guy gave his real name as “Jeff Albertson.” “Louis Lane” would have been much better.
