I fought the commute and the commute won. They’re doing some road construction around my facility and it has totally jacked traffic up because of lane closures and stooooooooopit drivers. :mad: I hate coming in already pissed off. Anyway, my supervisor and one of my co-workers have both called in sick today. It’ll basically be me and our manpower analyst so it should be nice and quiet. That’ll be good. I’m also just wishing 10:00 would come and go already. I want to get the interview over with and proceed on, whichever direction it takes. I’m hoping I do well. It’s rainy and icky out. Suh-priiiiise! Suh-priiiise! Suh-priiise! Not. Ugh, it would be nice to see the sun stay around for more than five damn minutes. Well, I should go through the rest of my emails and see what’s what around here. ---

Day 2 as boss has been survived. Man, I hate his job!! We got a little teensy bit silly today. I have boss’ cell number. We decided it would be hilarious to take turns calling him hourly - stuff like “Your candy dish is empty - send refills!” or “Don’t worry, we put the fire out.” or “We got most of the blood out of the carpet - you’ll never notice it.” Among other ideas. 😃 😃 😃 If I thought it would go straight to voicemail, I’d do it, but it wouldn’t be as funny if he answered. 7 more bossdays to go. \*\*BBBobbio \*\*- [somd.com](http://somd.com) has a classified section and I’ve had great luck giving away and selling stuff there, in case you still have that mower to be gone. \*\*Rebo \*\*- wow - real engineering type training - I’m jealous! \*\*Taters \*\*- how did it go?? Don’t keep us in suspense!! I actually had a good night last night. A few more of those an I may feel human again! My mom just called - she got a rotisserie from a friend, but no manual. Well, the interview was um…interesting. I was interviewed by two people via speakerphone. I don’t like speaker phone, it’s hard to hear and I’m always worried I’m going to misunderstand something. At any rate, the questions themselves had nothing to do with the job itself. The questions sounded like something straight out of a private sector HR handbook too. All the questions, in my humble opinion, were to see if I’d be a good fit for the “team”. I can understand that, but I really feel an interview should have something to do with the position’s duties too. Just a thought. Very first question: Why should we hire you? Ugh, I hate that question. I answered it though. I answered questions about my flexibility, being on successful teams, problem solving, what weaknesses and strengths my supervisor would say I had, and quite a few others. Quite often, I would hear “Good answer!” in the background. That’s a good thing, right? They told me they would be making a decision this week and I would hear either way. If I don’t get it, it just means it wasn’t the job for me and I’m cool with that. About 40 minutes before the interview, I actually started getting nervous. Hey, I haven’t interviewed for a job since 2004. I should work, although I’m finding it hard to concentrate. ---

One single sheet is unbalanced, but two are two heavy. :rolleyes: ☹ I’d rather have a regular old conventional washer that doesn’t think it needs to get them perfectly dry and have somewhat wrung out laundry in 30-45 minutes than a gamble on sopping wet laundry after 90 minutes. I hang most of my laundry on drying racks anyway so it’s not like I’m using extra electricity on the dryer if they start out a little damper. And I would like to have some idea of how long it’s actually going to take to do a load of laundry so I can go do something else and come back at approximately the right time. Right now it’s anywhere from 45-90 minutes. That’s not convenient. This has just been such a bad washer. And my sinus infection seems to be getting worse instead of better. Lovely. ---

The only problem with the texting idea is that we’re not allowed to have our cellphones in the building. Plus if he doesn’t have a text plan, it’ll cost him $$ every time we send one - that’s just mean. \*\*taxi \*\*- what brand washer do you have? Ours is a Kenmore (by Whirlpool, I believe) and I can do 7-8 pairs of jeans or 8-10 towels. Heck, I can do a queen comforter. Sounds like you got a mega-lemon. Looks like we may be selling the boat. \*\*FCD \*\*is not happy about it, but he agrees that between the costs, the work, and how little we sail it, we should get rid of it. I did remind him that for the same money, we can charter different boats and not have to deal with the maintenance or storage expenses. He’s still not happy. On the other hand, if we do sell it, he can take the proceeds and build a really nice workshop. We’re still talking… Just one question - why isn’t it Firday? ---

Sounds like you got a mega-lemon. It’s a GE. It had decent reviews so it may just be the one we got was an individual lemon as opposed to the brand being bad. But now I’m gun shy about another attempt at anything that needs a super spin. I’m fine with just an ordinary, non-front loading washer. Being able to do 7-8 pairs of jeans or 8-10 towels is just unimaginable to me. ---

I pumped up the tires, put on the light kit I ordered last week, and found two bungees that will hold my lunch bucket on the rack. Then I took a short shakedown ride through the new hood. Tomorrow, I ride my bike to work if there’s no rain at 0530. I haven’t done this since I worked for NASA and lived in Hampton. I hope I don’t wind up as street pizza… :eek: ---

I am feeling pretty good about myself today. I found out late this afternoon that I was also referred for the second job I applied for last week. I don’t know if I’ll actually receive a call for an interview, but it’s nice to know I made the selection list. Nitey-nite, **Swampy!** It would be a rather long bike ride if I opted to ride mine to work, **Bobbio.** My commute is 17 miles each way. That would take forever around here. ---

Cottonfield County was an impossible bike commute, at 45 miles one way to Coastieville. After we moved to the townhouse in Hampton, I went from 5 miles one way to 8. If I took the long way around Langley AFB, it went up to 11. But what a scenic ride it was… I face 3 miles one way tomorrow. Not enough to even work up a sweat… ---

I can’t decide whether I like **The One That Got Away** or **Man with a Cat** better. First instinct was Cat, if that helps. Or… **The Cat That Got Away**? Sorry about your washer woes,\*\* taxi\*\*. I’ll be getting new machines in the next couple of years and definitely want a front-loading washer. We had a washer/dryer in one machine when I was growing up that was great. That would be my ideal, but all the ones they make these days take forever to run through a cycle. (At least, last I checked they did.) I can understand why you’d want to go back, though, after your current experience. It sounds awful. Hope your toes are better by now, **doggio**. I’m doing my taxes tonight, finally. Big fun. Congrats on the job news, **Taters**. Yes, it’s a good sign when they say “good answer.” And having a second possible opportunity is great. I’m a strong advocate of interviewing as much as you can, even if you’re not actually job hunting, so that you’re not out of practice when you get to the interview for the job you really want.
