What will _I_ be doing Valentine’s Day? I’ll be taking the ATSW (Assessment of Teaching Skills, Written) - it’s a four hour long teaching certification test & New York State’s Valentine’s Day gift to me. After that I plan to go out to a bar with Dylan, one of my single friends, & get obliterated, after which we shall retire to my house & sleep it off. ---

Whether that’s better or worse than being based in Woking, I couldn’t say. I do fear B’mouth will be hosting a fair number of couples on romantic weekend breaks on the 14th, so I’m keen to avoid it. I’m returning via London, so I’m hoping to persuade the odd LonDoper/NADster to go for a beer. On a Valentine’s note a local radio station has been running an advert suggesting that blokes fed up with the idea of “the whole Valentine’s thing” (which I take to mean the commercialism and pressure to be with someone special) should spend the day at a particular local lap dancing club where “beautiful women will be dancing just for you”. So that’s not about money, then? They’re doing it for free 'cos they love you so much, eh? 🙂 ---

My Valentine’s Day will be spent celebrating my rabbit’s birthday by making a carrot cake to share with my family. The rabbit was a VD gift last year and was the only useful thing my ex ever did for me. (Ironically enough, ultimately making me realize that I needed to break up with him…) I believe VD is better spent single… at least this way I won’t be setting myself up for disapointment in a typical female way. …I also won’t be busting my ass to do something sweet for someone who won’t appreciate it. Phooey on Valentines Day and all that it does for singles _and_ couples.
