I’m not sure if this was actually a thing or if I just imagined it, I seem to recall a short lived single-seater open-wheeled race series that was set up specifically with national teams. By this I mean there was a ‘Team Germany’, ‘Team UK’ etc with drivers of the appropriate nationality, but I’m not sure how else it was supposed to work. This would have been sometime in the 2000’s, possibly in the early part of the current decade and I believe it was mostly European based. My google-fu is failing me on this one. ---
